NACC assures transparency of regional development projects

NAKHON PHATHOM, 23 November 2015 (NNT) - The Office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has instructed Nakhon Phathom officials tasked with managing village funds to work transparently.

Mr. Prasat Whongsiwaphai, a member of the NACC committee, has visited Nakhon Phatom province to observe the progress made in local five-million-baht-per-tambon program in Yai Hom subdistrict.

As implied, each subdistrict is allocated five million baht in government financial aid to improve the livelihoods of local residents through various projects.

Thirteen projects that are currently underway in Yai Hom include the construction of a bridge, a women's career development program, and repairs to roads and granaries.

According to Yai Hom Mayor Wittaya Suphasiriphoka, the transparency of these projects will also be verified by NACC officials. Permanent Secretary of Interior Kritsada Boonrat said the budget distribution program is aimed at helping low-income earners.

More than 74,000 projects worth 20.3 billion baht have already been approved under the program. Interior Minister Gen Anupong Paochinda has reiterated that both local officials and residents need to keep an eye on the program to ensure its transparency and success.

Thais nationwide can keep themselves abreast of project developments via the LINE ID, "5mb-tambon."

Maybe the NACC can take a page from Obama's playbook...where he claims to have the most "transparent Presidency in the history of the United States"...

Loosely translated: "I will keep everything secret and dictate laws without the benefit of Congressional approval"...

Is it good if the villagers can ask:
Where are the 5 million for our village?
Hopefully it works.
