Hi,

I am an Australian and will be visiting Thailand to stay at a Health/Detox resort in Phuket. Depending on the pace of weight loss, I expect to stay for between 90 - 120 days (3 -4 months).

I have been given two options by the embassy in Canberra.

1. Apply for a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (up to 60 days per entry). Stay for 60 days and then depart Thailand for 48 hours and then return to Thailand and receive an additional 60 days.

2. Apply for a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (up to 60 days per entry). Stay for 60 days and then apply for a 30 day extension. Then depart Thailand for 48 hours and return to receive an additional 60 days.

I think the first option is the best. I just wanted to post the advice I have received to the Thaivisa forum community to see if they have any comments, tips or corrections regarding the advise I have been given.

Thank you

DK

It is up to you as to how you do it. But for either one there is no requirement you stay out of the county for 48 hours. You only need to leave for as long as takes for you to turnaround and come back.

You could get a single entry tourist visa that would give you total stay of 90 days by getting the 30 day extension of its 60 day entry. Then you could do a border hop for a 15 day visa exempt entry or fly out and back to get 30 days. Both can be extended for 30 days an immigration office.

My suggestion would be:

  • Get a single entry tourist visa and enter for 60 days.
  • Extend it for 30 days at an immigration office for 1,900 baht.
  • If you want to stay longer, leave and return the same day receiving a visa exempt entry of 30 days. If necessary, this could also be extended inside the country.

As @ubonjoe already wrote: only 15 days at landborder and 30 days when flying in.

Australia is not a G7 country,

The Canberra website seems to have no update on the conditions of the multiple tourist visa (METV)?

Usually quite a hassle.

I would also recommend single TR and proposals as written above.

I could be wrong about the METV. Ask about the requirements/documents needed.

Some embassys have ridicolous requirements.

If its easy to get then you could go for it.

We stay 117 days too. We have choosen 60+60 days, so between them, we can have a trip to Vietnam

Unfortunately, the 60+60 option has gone now.

Not if they got their visas before the 13th or get a METV after that date.

... or fly back with a visa exempt entry extended for an additional 30 days.

Wondering why they said you need to stay out of the country for 48 hours before coming in to activate the next 60 days? Seems strange to me!

Hi everyone,

Thanks for posting your comments. I knew I would get better advice consulting the commuity here.

Based on the suggestions here, it would seem the best thing to do would be to get a single entry tourist visa (valid for 60 days) and extend it for an additional 30 days at an immigration office once in Thailand. After 90 days, I should fly out and fly back in and receive an additional 30 days (120 days all up) or alternatively just go do a border run and receive an additional 15 days (105 days all up)?

Please just check my understanding by commenting.

Also for those concerned or having questions regarding the METV here is the relevant section for the Australian Visa Application I think it makes reference to multiple entry:
