While finding this song it got me thinking.....We took a few road trips when I was a kid....Me in the back of my folks 56 Chevy.....No AC and I'm in the the back with 4/50 aircon - 4 windows open at 50MPH.....

Bored → just me - an ice chest - and a box of kleenex.....My Dad drove slow so everybody passed us....So - I made them pay......

If you wad up a tissue and soak it it makes a great spit wad....Every car that went by became a target....Sometimes if on the same road and we passed 3 times over a day they'd have 3 spit wads on a side panel.....Got to be quite good at it....Other drivers would see and laugh → think my Dad saw in the mirror.....My Mom couldn't figure out why she was always buying more Kleenex.....Even on days when the windows I'd sometimes see a car go by with my signature handy work....

Never got caught....Kind of like the Roadrunner & Wily E Coyote in this song.....Mark Knopfler → Coyote

You wished your pa had a Poncho GTO eh...?

Wouldn't have made a difference - he drove slow thinking slower was better....Mom would have stretched the GTO and I took after her.....Used to drive them to Giants games with their friends.....I remember one of them saying "I never believed I could get there this fast" ....... And I thought I was driving conservative for them! If he'd ever seen me on my Ducati he would've fretted forever.....

Reminds me of the times my buddy and I would sneak our parents cars out in the middle of the night....Wake up at 1 and home by 4......Until I came home to a dark house - and my folks were waiting in the dark at the dining room table wanting to know why the highway patrol car was passed by my Dad's car doing 100+ and they were called in the middle of the night to find out//// I was 14.....Good thing they didn't have the GTO......

It's nice to get away from time to time

but

Sometimes it's better to come home

There's a limit to how far I'd like to go, though

Except on a train

Except on a train

Except on a train

There's some places yecannaegitatraintae, mind

You're right there, Imam, but for some people, it's more about the journey than the destination

The anticipation...

ButCowboy, that'saboot NOT comin'hame

You're right there, Imam, sometimes, for all our reminiscences, we find ourselves forever in some foreign field travailing in our own chosen field

Edit: Puts me in mind of my own first day soldiering as an overpaid consultant in foreign lands, but I'm sure you've heard the story before

Trains, the most romantic form of travel, especially if Emmylou is on board.

Emmy lou is one of the better female country singers.

it's a might long way down rock nroll

This was a very enjoyable video, I noticed Elvis and Buddy Holly, but who was the black man with the beehive hairstyle?

Little Richard .... Bill Haley and the Comets & Jerry Lee Lewis were in there as well as well as the brit guys later on....Might have been Johnny Cash in one shot but was too quick....Looked like a Sun Studio shot....

I once bought a Morris Minor for thirty quid via a good friend. It had been taken care of lovingly by its owner for donkeys years, it had one of those really strong.old chassis so it was basically sound.

It passed the MOT for a couple of years but then it became too expensive to maintain for what it was. Seeing it going to the scrapyard i felt really bad, like having a dog I had had all my life put down.

Is that them that used to play with David Crosby and Graham Nash? Excellent stuff.

I apologize for continuing this theme from another thread, but whilst on earth would pilgrims and general folk of the 19th century, fleeing the desperate poverty, degradation and slum conditions of towns like Birmingham and Halifax in the UK, give the same name to new settlements in America?

Hadn't they had enough?
