Looking to buy Methanol to clean some painted handlebars, which are terribly soiled by softened and gluey rubber seals. very sticky stuff, and need to clean without damaging hard plastic pieces and painted metal bars. Any other idea? Maybe Turpentine? Thanks. MS>

Wouldn't ethyl alcohol do the trick?

Done it, with lots of elbow grease & SUNLOTION, which I remembered is excellent to clean of oil/dirt on the beach....acts as solvent without damaging most other materials. THX. all...MS>

FYI, i buy methanol in BKK at ordinary paint shops where they sell methanol, mineral spirits and lacquer thinner. Can't imagine paint stores throughout Thailand would be different. I mean, the shops all look identical...
