I have stayed more than Ten Years in Thailand and am always amazed that no where ever one can establish the "No Alcohol" days in advance ?

Wouldn't it be reasonable that TOT or all Tourist web sites to have a LINK for this type of information for next year ?

It seems like a blaster on Friday night is called for, and a few Heinekens purchased on Friday, stashed in the hotel fridge for Saturday night along with take away kebabs, followed by a serious session on Sunday. Ah the joys and pitfalls of holidaying in this country!!

Beer snobs are boring .Heineken is a decent beer.Belgium is lucky to have so many beers ,but they are of varying tastes .Some i like some i do not .Germany beers the same .

OMG- Just stock up your frig with beer the day before. You will have the cool refreshment whenever you want it. Better than sitting at a boring bar paying double for the price. Some of the Beach Chair vendors will sell beer while you are renting a beach chair and umbrella but you need to be discreet and hide the bottle on the sand or up your butt.

Why would TOT be interested?

Because having a beer in the evening whilst the sun is going down over the South China Sea, and before one repairs to a restaurant for a meal and a glass of wine, is part of the holiday experience and every time they have a booze ban during someone's hard earned holiday, is not going to encourage repeat visits and not going to get the country many rave reviews.

Almost certainly a lot of the bars etc. will be forced to close tomorrow, this has been the case for some number of years now, it is certainly not written down as one of the official 'no booze' days, as, apart from elections, these are all religious days, however, the 5th Dec seems to have gradually become an unofficial one for whatever reason!

I have fond memories of being in the bars of Walking Street (before it was a Walking Street) on the 5th December and at 8 pm all of the girls used to line up on the edge of the road with their candles etc. no booze ban in place then whatsoever.

I'll lay odds that the bars in the Mapprachan area will be all closed, seems the bars around there close at the drop of a hat in these situations, oh well, a few drinks at home with a take away, do feel for those that do not have that option and are in a hotel etc. especially if here on holiday for a week or so.

Are there any other old Pattaya hands with a take on this? Are there areas that are less likely to be affected: Soi LK Metro and now Mapprachan have been cited as likely ban areas, which ones are usually left alone?

I think the unofficial ban on these days has less to do with alcohol consumption but more with less-respectable activities like bar fining and general display of debauchery.... go to any restaurants along beach road on that day and you'll find they'll be serving alcohol just fine, only the seedy sois that's asked to close out of respect.

Same with the Queen's Birthday that's also mother's day, somebody's mothers or definitely daughters probably don't feel like getting groped by old men

The attraction of Belgian beers is that they come in many different flavours.

Not 1 standardized, mass produced, uniform, "one fits all", marketing product.

As for German beers, what do they have? Mostly lager (I would not even drink Belgian lager) and weissbier that does not compare to Hoegaarden.
