Thai planning at its finest there. Yup.

You could get to work no problem, you just cant leave work till after 10pm lol

How will you get to work if the roads are shut from midnight Thursday? Unless you are near a bts station you're screwed.

is there a Google map for this ?

maybe people need to park your car on one side of the closed road and have a buddy park on the other side ,

Then you can walk over the road and get the other car :)

Yes I know that takes advanced planning but not too much !

97% of the population will be badly inconvenienced so the tiny 3%, ( yeah, only 3 % riding ),

participating can seek merit !

Here is the Chiang Mai route.

Also a great effort to create the Mother of All Traffic Jams.

Well done, not waiting for Saturday. rolleyes.gif

It actually seems a little deliberate. They could have just used one main highway out of town, and reserve one lane for cyclists in both directions. It's even a little puzzling how some people are even able to get out of their own homes in certain areas.

It shouldn't affect us as much in northern Bangkok where it is jammed every day anyway. But I feel sorry for the people who have to venture into central Bangkok for work when the stupid idea to hold this on a normal working day was completely avoidable.

I've got an appointment at 1pm at the Trendy to renew my passport on Friday driving in from Korat. Is this within the area or likely affected? My geography of Bangkok not too good. . As I only got confirmation of appointment on Tuesday and have 3 days to cancel what is the best advice ?

I would park at Swampy, use the Airport Rail Link to Phaya Thai then the BTS to Nana which is a short walk to Trendy.

I agree - I am being given the day off work - but I have to make it up later. On the Queen's birthday the bike ride was on a Sunday, which made more sense (if you have to close down an entire metropolis for such an event). One of the problems is probably that after the Royal Dedication, no-one dared to suggest that an effective shut down of the business life of the city - especially when the economy is floundering- was, as Sunderland says, a stupid idea...

If there were proper bike lanes these roads would not need to be closed at all! BMA doesn't understand that cycling should be a normal alternative means of transportation in the inner city

They exist but there are too many cars, trucks and buses on ;

today only bicycles on these roads;

you will see they aren't enough wide for all these bikes.

I have a dream ....every day only bicycles on the roads of Thailand, not only Krungthep ....and the cars in their garages. clap2.gif
