Suu Kyi holds 8th meeting with Shwe Mann
Myanmar Eleven

National League for Democracy chairperson Aung San Suu Kyi yesterday met Union Parliament Speaker Thura Shwe Mann for the eighth time after the election.

Thura Shwe Mann posted on his Facebook page, saying Suu Kyi asked him what is the greatest challenge for Myanmar’s transition.

"The greatest challenge at the present time is, for me, cooperation with the public from all corners. I wish the entire public would participate and make suggestions," he said.

After the election on November 8, Suu Kyi met speaker Thura Shwe Mann for the first time on November 15. They also met on November 17, 19, 23, 24, 30 and December 3.

A joint press release was issued only after the November 19 meeting.

Following the November 30 meeting, Thura Shwe Mann posted on Facebook: "We have to welcome her and the NLD. It is good news that she also hopes for the participation of the national races in coming government. Taking this as a good opportunity, we have to work for tranquility, peace and prosperity of our country."

She also held separate meetings with retired Senior General Than Shwe and Commander-in-Chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing on December 2.
