Plain, White, Cotton T-Shirts

Anyone know where you can buy good quality, plain white all-cotton crew neck T-shirts in BKK? Went into Robinson and all I could find were some blend fabric, new-fashion things that cost too much and aren't what I want. Brands I think I used to buy were Levis, Hanes, Fruit of the Loom (Kensington?).... Just your basic 'James Dean' type T-shirt. Thx.

I also wore the brands you mentioned back in the states and when I moved here I brought several of them with me. But I have found that a Thai brand named ( J. Press ) are less expensive here and much cooler heat wise when wearing them. They can be found at about any of the local markets. I am now sure why but the cotton is just more comfortable and maybe a little lighter weight than the brands from back home.

Yeah, not easy.
I agree.
I searched a while and finally found a store in one of the malls that had some nice soft cotton, plain shirts in various colors.
Was just a small place in one of the malls around Sukumvit 17 or so???

I always feel the cotton and look for the softest.
I found some incredible ones in Cambodia for dirt cheap.
Bought a bunch of them (Phnom Penh)

Always looking.

The Hanes shirts at Big C were great when they were manufactured in Bangladesh and selling at 119 baht. More recently:

  1. The Hanes shirts are being sourced out of Vietnam and Thailand. The quality of fabric is noticeably lower - thinner and 'harder'
  2. They seem now to have stopped adding new stock
  3. The Hanes shirts that remain available in the stores (particularly white) are mostly XXL and bigger (or small kids)!
  4. The other makes of plain shirt they are stocking are crap
  5. The prices are now in the range 129 to 149 baht
  6. A lot of the stock is spoiled from having been handled by too many grubby hands over the last 3 years

I buy shirts for screen printing for my Hash House Harriers club which is why I seem to have an anal interest in Hanes shirts at Big C! If anyone knows any other outlet that stocks them then let me know!

Actually it's mostly the ladies and kids styles/sizes of Hanes shirts that I have been buying, but I am familiar with their mens range too. Because Hanes have always been a bit more expensive than other plain vanilla T-shirts I have always bought my mens' shirt stock at 'Faram', so maybe take a look at these. Faram
is at the back of the ground floor of City Complex in Pratunam. They have a good range, the quality of cotton is good, and is thicker than Hanes (so that may or may not suit you - personally I like the feel of the Hanes better if I were buying for a casual T). Faram will do discounts if you are buying bulk. Basic pre-discount price last time I looked (2 weeks ago) also displayed inflation at the larger sizes, after 3 years of static prices. Prices are S-80; M-100; L-120; XL-140; XXL-150. They have a range of primary colours, but they are all the basic same male crew neck.

If you want to check them out, go into City Complex (which is broadly opposite Platinum Fashion Mall, reasonably close to those big traffic lights with the flyover) using the entrance down the side street off Petchaburi to the west of City Complex. It's an entrance that is about 50 meters down the soi. You go up half a floor, then you are on what I call the ground floor. Turn left and go as far to the back as you can. Faram is on the back wall. Back right if you were looking at City Complex from the front on Petchaburi.

Last time I went to Faram I also noticed another store towards the back of the ground floor (approx a couple of rows further towards the front and in the middle ish of the row) with an even bigger range of solely plain shirts and also with a full range of ladies styles. It is much more rigorously wholesale - minimum order of 3 shirts same size/same style/same colour (I think all three, but check that) - and the quality is not quite as soft as the Bangladesh-made Hanes, but they looked to be a decent substitute for us club buyers and the prices looked very keen (I'm recalling 20 baht a shirt less). Did not have time to give them a full analysis on size (Hanes and Faram are deffo full Western sized - a Large is a proper Large and an XXL is a tent! Faram are noticeably long shirts too if you are a tall guy that's good. I always carry my tape measure when shopping for club clothing or DIY!

I may switch all my buying to this other supplier in future, but need to spend more time feeling/measuring! .....I'm betting that you won't get a more comprehensive answer on the Hanes bit eh?

[i've searched other malls in the Pratunam area - Indira centre used to have a good supplier that I was going to use, but they then disappeared. I think I nailed the only two plain shirt specialists in Pratunam, but welcome hearing details if I'm wrong].

Looks like I'll go check Big C. I don't get over by Pratunam that often, but if I do, I doubt I'll remember how to get to Faram. But I used to stumble around in that area long ago, so maybe I'd find it. I have a friend who comes from the US a couple times a year. Looks like this time I'll ship some Hanes to his place to bring over for me. Thanks people. ;)

Your knowledge of plain white cotton tee shirts far outweighs that of your knowledge of football.
