Hal65
2 out of 3 Thai girls seem confused when I tell them I'm near Central Festival. I have to say it a few times and say things like "near Pattaya Klang" to get the message across sometimes. Why is this? Does they have another name for Central Festival? I know the Thais call 7/11's "Seven" so I'm thinking this might be the issue.
SoiBiker
Try 'centran'.
Woody1
Just say, "I'm in Apple shop looking for a phone for you", think you'll find your beau is at your side before you have time to hang up!

JHolmesJr
Try 'centran'. Or 'Centrun' Both work. Rule of thumb....no full sentences to ever be used.
balo
Yes drop the word Festival, that will give them too mutt to think about. Central is what is used by Thais anyway, and theres only one Central in Pattaya.

Central is what is used by Thais anyway, and theres only one Central in Pattaya. True, but ..... Remember that CentralFestival in Pattaya is different from Central Festival Pattaya Beach because CentralFestival has been an alternative name for the Big C North Pattaya for several years. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CentralFestival_Pattaya_Beach
KhunBENQ
Sentrun beech lod Seriously: its NOT a joke. The Thai script (small letters above the 2nd road entrance) is transcribed as: S E N T R L (no C in Thai) An L at the end morphs to an N by rules. S E N T R A N (A spoken like a single U in English) One of the many examples why it is so difficult to handle foreign loanwords Edited December 26, 2015 by KhunBENQ

slipperylobster
If I am going to the mall, I sure don't want them coming with me...anyways. So I tell them Central Festival.
digbeth
The Central "Center" where big C is on 2nd road between north and central used to be called Central Festival and is indeed owned by the Central Group, even though they never had a Central department store in there. When the Central 'proper' on Soi 9 opened, they transferred the name over, so old Pattaya hands might still cling to the old name
anto
Why tell them where you live in the first place .If you do have to ,say something like Nirun Condo ,so that they think you have little money ;-).
