Coyote dancers on pick-up trucks in Uttaradit City last night.

UTTARADIT - A mayor in northern Thailand said he’s sorry for allowing a sexualized dance show to be featured in a state-sponsored New Year party last night.

Uttaradit City Mayor Samrarn Euachirawanic, told reporters today that he was not aware that the dance show was to be included in the event, and promised that such a mistake would never happen again.

“I’d like to apologize the people of Uttaradit,” Samrarn said with an apologetic wai.

The event was organized by a local sound equipment club, who billed it as both a car sound system show and New Year party. It took place in front of Uttaradit Railway Station Sunday night, with more than 30 vehicles parked on the roads, displaying their sound systems.

Controversy started after a group of scantily-clad female dancers climbed onto the pick-up trucks and started dancing in a sexually-suggestive way. Some of the dancers and onlookers were also seen drinking alcohol.

OMG! We badly need this in Bangkok giggle.gif , especially during New Year Celebration. We don't have to go to expensive bars. Should be included under TAT promotions too.

What a nice entertainment while having highly taxed 7-11 Beer. clap2.gif

Scantily clad females are EVERYWHERE. So what's the big deal?

Oh, and some dancers and onlookers were drinking alcohol? So what's new? In fact, at what events in Thailand are people NOT drinking alcohol? Just wait, New Years is only a few days away.

I'm not prude at all and visit gogo bars, but i have faced a few times this kind of dancing on sound trucks when passing an event, and for some reason I get the feeling that I'm watching animals.

OMG! They were dancing sexy in shorts. To what levels will things be reduced to there. For crying out loud. It was a new years party. Not some fundraiser or upper echelon business party.

I have seen African tribal dances sexier than what these girls do.

I am outraged!

Half naked ladies, dancing provocatively and people consuming alcohol during a party in Thailand!

The end is neigh! coffee1.gif

Oh dear, it's only 'lewd' when some local 'Thaier than Thou' stuffed shirt says something and this rather sporting, public spirited, right thinking' Mayor has to apologise once his own 'Thaier than Thou' ness is threatened.....

Although I have a long 20+ year association with this magnificent country, there is, almost every day, something which makes me raise an eyebrow and suck a thoughtful tooth, which is why I love it so.

It kind of shows the attitude of these people ......they decide to put on a public show and stage one that completely ignores the tastes of half the population - women

Thia dancing is not allowed but it is ok at the large outdoor concerts for the guys to bring a huge foam dildo out on stage and ride it around the stage poking into people and making sexual jokes. And this is in front of all the children.

You seem quite unaware of the traditional Thai PALAD KHIK. .... and then decide to apply your own prejudiced judgement.

I can't remember having been to a single local (more or less) concert in Thailand the last 20 years that haven't featured scantily clad dancer performing sexually provoking dance, many of the dancer well under 16 years of age. Maybe the mayor of Uttaradit needs to get out more.... or is it his wife who's behind the complaint? cheesy.gif

Opinion: Sexual hypocrisy is alive and well in Thailand

by Thitipol Panyalimpanun -- asiancorrespondent.com

AsiaSexTradeGeneric.jpg

SEX is a topic Thai society isn’t too sure how to handle. Thailand’s teen pregnancy and HIV infection numbers are worryingly high, and the fact that sex remains a social taboo only makes for a tough battle. Despite being well known for a large community of ladyboys and gay friendliness, Thai society lacks understanding and knowledge about gender rights. While sex is in part intuitive and subjective, many aspects of it actually require education. And before sexism, homophobia or anti-sex enters the list of social values of so called ‘Thainess’, we need to talk about sex.
