Hi all, which word describes depression in English, or being depressed? I was trying to explain this to a friend as we have a mutual friend who is suffering from it. She seemed to think it would pass shortly but I explained that he had lost a close family member as well as his job not so long ago, os it was a bit more serious than that.

I was using glum jai which I think was a mistake on my part. So what's the best word to use if someone has depression and need to take medicine for it?

Before anyone cuts and pastes: yes I have looked at the various online dictionaries and seen the options listed but I was hoping that someone would give the word they use rather than a list of possible answers which I am already aware of

Sometimes these things need a little explaining to be better understood… that is my general approach.

I would also probably have used gloom jai - and then added took wan [everyday] and then added the details about death in the family and losing a job… and i probably would have finished with Sao mahk...

yes, suspect that's best. She did say a word which she thought it was but I didn't quite catch it. It sounded like it began with How Heep. I will show her it the next time I see her.
