I believe that Big Joe Williams said it all:

he even gotsa 9 stringed guitar to let you know that he's serious...

and then there's Brother James

and I'se here to tell ye...I musta been in that '29 Ford with Brother James...same thing is gonna happen to my wicked soul...please don't tell my little niece...

de blues is a feelin' that I just had today...

(an' yeah...I saw Big Joe at the Ash Grove in LA not long before he died...he opened for Taj Mahal, believe it or not...me and some pals were drinkin' Red Mountain in the alley behind before the show...later, my pal lost control of the car and we almost crashed on an onramp to the Santa Monica freeway, 1969 an lovin' it...oh, Brother James...)

and...for a little syncopated country blues we gots ol' Mississippi John Hurt...

I got my acoustic guitar playing to be a respectable imitation about 45 years ago...but then, I put it down and haven't played a lick since...to do the electric blues ye gots to get yer thumb over the fret board and I never got that far and gave up...check out the electric blues guitar masters' technique...

and I believe that that the blues is necessarily guitar based...

now that I got some bucks I thought about gettin' a Les Paul Jr and an amp and tryin' to fool around a bit, I like Gibson's wider fret board (wider than Fender)...but it would just sit inna guitar stand and I would just admire it and think about all the great riffs that I would play if I was capable...

broken dreams...ain't that what the blues is all about?

555 broken dreams, I like that tutsi, last year I was rotating a neon light tube when the thing imploded severing the tendon on my ring finger (the hand I use on the fretboard) so now all I can play is some slide guitar as I can't bend that finger. Still could have been worse, a neighbour on the farm lost the whole of his hand to a rubber sheets machine.

always loved Fred McDowell

yahs, yahs...'ol Fred McDowell is one of my favorites

there was a bit from this song not included in this recording that went:

I woke up one Monday mornin'

an' I throwed my books away...

I wrote the teacher a letter

an' said: 'I'll try highway 61 today...'

I was feelin' oppressed by university at the time...and I did get to a good standard of acoustic slide back in them days, mostly by listening to Fred McDowell recordings...open G tuning...

yeah...I hear that...in the late 70s I was workin' inna garage in West LA and a wrench slipped and I tore the nail on my middle fret playing finger right off...it never did heal properly but I had quit playin' a few years before anyway...

but, I ain't gonna let that stop me...

(oh, dear...someone take tutsi's vodka away before he spends his retirement money on expensive music equipment that he'll never use anyway...)

A great song by Blind Lemon Jefferson.

I don't know a lot of folk/local music worldwide but I've noticed similarities between what I've seen and listened to - the blues in USA, Irish gigs and ballads, Issan morlam and country- they all use the major chords with, note perfect singing accompanying an irresistible tap footing rhythm, either slow or fast..

And you either have it or you don't.

AFAIK th blues developed outta 'field moans' from slaves in america but the white appalachan type folk music comes mostly from the 'british' isles to include the celtic reels and etc...the brits have got their own contemporary folk music scene, see Ewan McColl and etc...Fairport Convention and The Pentangle were the best known in the US...

and I like Peter, Paul and Mary...a bit off topic but this one is my favorites, a Bob Dylan tune:

I was in a beat cantina in Tijuana with my dad and his new family in 1969 and we spent the afternoon drinkin' tequila and beer and playin' tunes on the jukebox with the above tune included...me old dad loved those places and his spanish was so good that if you didn't notice his blond hair and blue eyes you'd think that you were talkin' to a native speaker and he was a Nashville lad, southern accent and all...very comfortable...

I must apologize to you Mr Tutsi , but i would disagree about blues being necessarily guitar based .

Are you forgetting the banjo, the piano , the violin or fiddle , even the clarinet & blues harp or even the accordion ( in some Louisiana Blues or Zydeco.)

What about that fabulous coronet solo in the begging of St James Infirmary ? Now that is great blues .

Even Mr Ray Charles did a lot of stuff with full orchestration - guitar being just one ,although vital, instrument of many .

In the House of my Blues Lord , there are many instruments and styles.

yeah...I hear ye...I guess I betray my prejudice for delta and chicago blues where the guitar predominates...and yeah...I useta get off some good harp licks back in the old days...a few years ago I found a harmonica at a stall at Lotac and then went tootling about the house for a few days...the wife and family were highly amused...but then I went off to work and when I came home I couldn't find it...maybe my grandson reckoned on bein' the next thai Littte Walter...

This song is all about the human condition....If performed by the right voice & blues band it could be a monster spellbinding blues performance.....

I once asked you if you remembered the Commander Cody song,' Connie' and you didn't seem sure, shame it's not on youtube,it's a classic in the same vein.

I found the lyrics only...Only thing possible on YT is a full concert....But I don't know if Connie is included...
