Canadian citizen looking to marry his Thai girlfriend of 3 years. I have been divorced now for around 10 years and do not have my divorce papers anymore, nor am I able to contact my ex wife to get them from her as we haven't spoken since the day of the divorce and I have no idea how to contact her. What are my optons if any?

A decree absolute is an official document so it must be filed somewhere, same as a birth certificate, so you would need to apply for a copy.

You wouldn't need to contact your ex-wife. Have a look at the Canadian Government web site.

I just received this email from my embassy which states they will give me an affirmation of divorce.

Is the person correct in stating that I still require my original divorce certificate in order to get married in Thailand.

While we may proceed in honouring your words with your affidavit as divorced status, the Thai authorities do not. You would require to obtain a legal copy of your divorce document.
