Thailand ready to share philosophy of sufficiency economy during G-77 chairmanship to achieve sustainable development goals

BANGKOK, 16 January 2016 (NNT) - Foreign Affairs Minister Don Pramudwinai has delivered a statement at the Handover Ceremony of the Chairmanship of the Group of 77 (G77) for 2016 at the Headquarters of the United Nations.

Thailand, as Chair of the Group of 77, will operate under the theme “From Vision to Action: Inclusive Partnership for Sustainable Development” and will pursue priorities as follows;

1. Thailand will push for effective implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Addis Ababa Action Agenda on Financing for Development through inclusive development and active involvement by all stakeholders and draw on good practices among member countries on how to proceed on the development path. Thailand is ready to share experiences and practices of the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy as a growth and development model to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

2. Thailand will further promote South-South Cooperation and committed to working with all members to enhance capacities in tackling common emerging challenges and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development. Thailand will host various meetings with experts to explore ways and means to further strengthen the cooperation and will contribute 520,000 US dollars to the Perez-Guerrero Trust Fund in support of the Group’s activities and technical cooperation.

3. Thailand will aim to build resilience in response to the impact of climate change and reduce risks of disasters in an effective and timely manner, taking into consideration the principle of common but different responsibility and capacity of each country.

4. Thailand will further strengthen coordination and collaboration between the different chapters of the group to ensure that the interests and concerns of the group are comprehensively addressed.

Yep, a meeting of nations is an opportunity to teach the rest of the world to suck eggs.

A country that consistently fails to manage its water system in the face of predictable and avoidable circumstances should do less speaking and more listening.

Bit late, disaster is the form of drought is already upon us. Unforunately the government were completely unprepared, yet again.

If I remember my Eng. Lang. precis lessons accurately, this whole press release can be summarised as:-

" Meaningless rhetoric, vacuous ramblings and just plain B.S."

Sorry if I've been too brief...............

The government will milk this G77 leadership topic for all it's worth. I'm expecting a few more announcements about their "aim", and a few articles about some meetings.

I am bored of the subject already.

That should be an interesting talk from a country which derives 70% of its GDP from exports facepalm.gif

They also managed to plunge foreign investment by 78%.

Perhaps they could do better lecturing the world on how to successfully aim, plan and intend without actually doing anything.

Apart from anything else, if they had any right to tell the rest of us how to do our business they wouldn't be subsidizing rubber farmers.

Furthermore, there's nothing self-sufficient about a country programmed to squeeze money out of foreigners.

They can brag about how they have those ever efficient crackdowns. whistling.gif

Maybe self-sustainability to them means the skills and planning required to operate the jet ski scam racket and the like?

This will be milked for publicity for all it's worth, just imagine 77 countries listening to Thailand, well at least pretending they're listening.

Standby for statements of praise issued by LoS on behalf of others.

BREAKING NEWS:

"Thailand wowed the G77 with its earth-shattering advice on how to have a sufficient bar girl economy. This was according to a high ranking Thai official. No other country could be persuaded to comment, all citing the need for dignity and decorum."

They couldn't comment as they were all too busy booking a trip to Pattaya on their smartphones.

Thailand and philosophy, an oxymoron to the extreme... the only philosophy Thailand knows

start and ends with MONEY.... and the more the better...

Membership is at 134 countries now. The only thing they have in common is they are wanna-be developed countries who want handouts from developed countries without change to their own foreign policies, national pride and economic agendas. Thailand is a leader among losers.

Actually this is a big mix up.. G77 is a drug used for reducing labour pains.... Or... No! That's probably my mistake and it is a perfect area of political expertise for Thailand to teach the rest of the world!

If the sufficiency economy was any good as a - what - philosophy/economic system?, surely Thailand would practice it first instead of merely spouting about how fantastic it to others, so as to be seen to be dutiful and loyal...

Surely, the government should show examples of this fine philosophy to the Thai people before sharing it with anyone.

No, self sufficiency is only for those who have nothing.
