CDC President to discuss with charter drafters, political future of NCPO

BANGKOK, 21 January 2015 (NNT) - The President of the Constitution Drafting Commission is planning to discuss with his colleagues the political future of members of the National Council for Peace and Order.

CDC President Meechai Richupan said on Wednesday that he doesn't think the charter drafters needs to include in the draft Constitution, a provisional clause that all NCPO members need to be banned from politics for five years, as suggested by one of the former members of the disbanded Constitution Drafting Committee, Jade Donavanik earlier.

Mr. Jade said that his suggestion was aimed at preventing the NCPO from maintaining its influence over future politics as some have expressed worries about.

However, Mr. Meechai said that he will still raise the issue in discussions with the current team of charter drafters soon.

Really, what's the point of such a prohibition in the constitution?

The military has never honored any constitution to date, What would bind the military to such a provision if it existed?

So put the provision in - let the Thai people believe in the goodness of the royal (not people's) military.

Until the next coup.

Haha, the charter already ensures members of the NCPO and their friends have political power for the next few decades (or whenever they abolish it to replace it with their own constitution).

Of course such a ban would not be meaningfull anyway, there are precious little Thais that would vote for this lot biggrin.png
