BANGKOK: -- An interprovincial bus with 50 passengers on board crashed with a private car at an intersection in Chaiyaphum province early on Friday killing two persons in the car and injuring 23 others on the bus.

The fatal accident happened at 2.39 am today on Highway 201 from Sekiew to Chaiyaphum.

The bus came from Bangkok on its way to Loei.

According to the slightly injured passengers on the bus, the private car jumped the red light traffic at the bypass intersection at high speed as the bus was also passing the same place.

The driver, identified as Pramuan Lampha, 45, swerved to avoid hitting the car but couldn’t make it in time.

The bus rammed at the front side of the car and flipped over before resting on the roadside ditch.

Two died inside the badly damaged car while the driver identified as Mr Krisana Kamma, 50, seriously injured.

Rescue workers spent half an hour helping the trapped driver out of the car and sent him to Chaiyaphum hospital along with 23 passengers of the bus.

Most of the passengers were treated for minor injuries and discharged, except two in serious condition at the ICU for close monitoring.

Police said they were looking into CCTV camera at the intersection to see the exact cause of the fatal crash.

Here we go again. Must have been raining. RIP to the fatalities and a speedy recovery to the injured.

From BKK to Loei, yes that must be tourists...will they also improve the bus-safety for the 10us$ fee all tourists have to pay soon or does that cost extra? We need buses with wheels on the roof as well so they can continue driving.

Nothing new they jump red lights all the time its a natural cultural thing. Ever noted how slow they are to accelerate when the light has just turned green? If the BIB wanted to reduce this instead of the renew police point checks looking at motor scooter licences and grabbing 200 baht for something wrong. Just station your BIB team the other side of any major traffic lights junction and reel in the red light runners; make cars and above a 2000 baht fine; that will raise easy revenue and may change their thinking on what a red traffic light means!
