I'm sat here in a respectable pub and there's girls running round in skimpy shorts and vests exposing their oxters.

Yes ........ but is there any scampi and does it come ready salted or do you have to lay it on.

Whilst I agree that people should at least shower before going out to eat I am equally irritated by people who douse themselves with perfume (or aftershave) so that they stink up the area for meters around their table, this too detracts from the taste of food.

One of my favourite places to eat in Bangkok used to ban the use of cellphones in the restaurant - sadly this is no longer enforced.

enough tattoos to keep the ink companies afloat for years.

So people with tattoos shouldn't be allowed in restaurants?

This past week I ate in restaurants twice and I couldn't tell you what the other customers were wearing or anything about their tattoos.None of my business really.

I agree that there are times when being in close proximity to some people who eschew soap or deodorant could ruin a meal, but in most quality restaurants you wouldn't end up cheek by jowl with such people.

If you want to dine only with people who dress for dinner, use only the "Queen's English", and abide unflinchingly by the Miss Manners eating rules (must never use the wrong fork (gasp !), then Pattaya is certainly not the place to find it.

Too much perfume is offensive but fortunately smoking been largely banned from restaurants. Still If I was an owner/chef of I would openly discourage trade from so-called "smokers". Their palates largely having been so destroyed by smoke they can hardly discern the subtle flavours of luxury cuisines anyway.

The powerful odour of "tobacco" that hovers about them is an offensive irritant to others in their proximity in dining rooms.

I would not want my clients to have to suffer either the horrible clouds of stinking smoke they create in doorways and back-alleys when they run off for their

ciggie-breaks.

By the way does the chart below show a place for a mobile? There is only one thing more seemingly pathetic than the couple whose spend an entire dinner on mobiles.

That being the Farang and his slapper, looking totally out of place. The limits of the baby talk reached with gentleman chewing food in silence.

The lady disinterested and probably more more comfortable eating som tam and sticky rice at a more casual location.

The food should be on display, not the customers. There are many places that do enforce a dress code, if you think that is important you can seek them out. But if you focused on your food and yourself, perhaps you would not notice the other customers ?

Men going into any restaurants showing mostly bare flesh and hairy armpits is just ignorance, and not on.

Nothing wrong with shorts, teashirts, sandals, or flip flops, but wife beaters and sweaty hairy armpits??????

No you are not expecting too much....

Others just expect too little from themselves → and also about those they choose to associate with.....

In Tesco Lotus yesterday most of the farang men made an effort to look presentable/not all clothes in style or newish but clean - exception being one in a western shirt and ill fitting fishermans pants = he looked just stupid....

On the way home saw several others that just looked like sht....Unkempt hair - dirty wrinkled clothes/wife beaters - ungroomed/unshaven......

Surely the hot climate makes it easier to skimp on dressing but there's an element here that just cannot/does not want to look like anything other than a wandering homeless hobo.....

Betting in their home countries they were misfits too & maybe just stayed in to drink.....Grungy looking human beings.....

My 8 year old out playing with reckless abandon seldom looks as badly deported → and it's bath time as soon as she's in.....

Many of those people have eschewed bathing regularly for quite awhile....

Until I move abroad - although travelling the world a bit - I never thought some nationalities were unhygenic.....Now I think so → and it's their norm - unfortunately....

It's a little less concerning to me if they are the young backpacker types......The over 50's like that are scarey in that you are only seeing the surface of their unclean habits.....

Fittingly enough most don't have a Thai female with them......

Fittingly enough most don't have a Thai female with them...... That will be the ones who do not have deep pockets.

If you eat in public places, expect to mix with the public.

I don't like seeing fat people, but I put up with it.

Fat people can be clean, although it is unsightly, tattoos and facial hair also unsightly, but they

do not interfere with cleanliness in a restaurant.

In my day a suit was worn, end of a meal quiet chat, glass of port with a cigar....

Really sorry if you young guys never experienced that stuff....Glad I did...smile.png

Thailand a third world country? I was always under the impression it was a 'developing country'.

In a hundred years time, Thailand will still be a "developing" country.

That's fine, as long as they shave their armpits. Or should I say oxters?

Yes, it was all part of the ambiance of the occasion, an excepted thing, BUT, at times there was a place for the chaps to go and smoke a cigar and a Brandy whilst the ladies sat elsewhere to natter, just depends..

When I ate at one of Her Majesties establishments, NO, not prison laugh.png , I went out to the courtyard for a fag...tongue.png ......It's true........laugh.png

Her Majesties establishments? Description please.

Not necessary, I have sat with fat people who have no problem with hygiene.

Somehow this fits this thread like a glove.....Cowboy Way.....

He'sdedonthair. Mindwhenyecrashed TheTiltedWig, wi' HerRoyalHighness Theprincessroyal?

That was a great day, that was, bar 80 minutes of "the biggest load of pish" (Her words, not mine) that She'd had to sit through as Patron of the Union.

"Never mind, pet, don't greet", I said, and offered her a comradely shoulder to cry on.

"Careful with your hands, there Cowboy, do ye not know who that is?"

and theBlether bowed deeply; well, he went to bow deeply, but his knees buckled under his prodigious frame.

"Blether!", the Princess cried, "There's no need to kneel", and with the assistance of the bouncers, and few burly Special Branch officers who happened to be there, we were able to get him back on his pins, a faux pas on my part bordering Lese Majeste was happily overlooked, and most luckily of all, theBlether was too flustered to sing.
