Warm clothes in Chiang Mai

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I'm off to a meditation retreat in the nature near Chiang Rai from the 1st till 10th of February, and we've been told to bring some warm clothing – of which I have very little. Does anyone know of shops in CM where I can buy some warm clothes, jumpers trousers etc? A sports fleece would be ideal, and a pair of thick trousers, but I can't afford a brand like North Face or Columbia.

Thanks for the tips!

Try Uniqlo at Central Festival or Airport Plaza. They have thermal underwear and parkas for sale.

Check out the export clothing shops. They usually have fleecy stuff -- not very stylish, but it will do the job. There is one on the second floor of Kad Suan Kaew mall. I think there is one in Pantip Plaza, but someone should confirm that.

I've found we need winter clothing so infrequently, that a couple of cheap items from the export clothing shop does the trick for me -- along with the great black knit sweater cape I've had for over 20 years, that's dressy enough to go to an opera, but rugged enough to stuff in a backpack for an international trip.

Tesco superstores have a franchise in the lobby selling decent coats for 150bht each.

Kad Suan Keow Shopping Mall has clothing stalls by the escalators selling jumpers and jeans at around 200bht each.

Thanin Market, half way down Chang Puak Road has a cheap clothing store on the corner up from the traffic lights.

Sounds like it might be useful for fighting crime as well.

Can you take a couple of cats with you? These cold evenings, they can hardly wait for one of us to get into bed, where they crawl under the covers and serve as great heat sources.

I let Hubby have them for an early start because I know they'll migrant over to me once I get into bed -- he has restless legs and they find that annoying.

Dirty and disgusting having an animal in bed with you. Especially a cat. Ugh.

Buy a heater.

I'd rather have my cats in there than some of the dirty dogs people bring home from Loy Kroh!
