Super Bowl - Were is a good place to hunder-down and view

I've friend coming into the city Friday Feb 5. They want to watch the Super Bowl. Sorry, I'm not a Super Bowl type of guy, so I just don't follow the stuff.

Where are some places in town that will broadcast the event where we can hunker down, drink beer, and have fun. I can guarantee four warm bodies.

figure about a 6:22 am kick-off +/-.....perhaps the Sugar Bar on the outside of the East side of the moat, just south of LK...they seem to put a good effort into US sports before....don't know about beer laws and stuff like that. I think it would be live on Thai TV, so a real comfy, economical bet would be to have your own party with the sound down. Hardcore fans often do that, even when the audio is in English. UN Cafe will likely be recommended, but not by me....YMMV. The cheaters being out is already a victory. #29 for Carolina went to my Uni, with a little help on his Maff.

would not expect much from a local establishment at that early an hour. won't be open.

thais don't care much for football. the whole vibe is not here, never will be.

if you want to watch live a home showing is probably the best option.

barring that, i would check around for pre-recorded, re-showings later that night. maybe down under pub or UN Irish pub.

Good then that there are several American owned/operated places in town.

You don't actually have any personal experience with this right? ;)

So anyway, as has been mentioned:

B&B Sugar

CM Saloon

UN Irish (Replay)

Would be good to check a day or so before about the format. (Just order from the menu, or some kind of breakfast buffet thing with a ticket, etc.)

Fey says "Thais dont care much for football". Yes they do. Thais love football. Its by far their number one loved sport. As it is for us Europeans. You know Fey, football, thats the game played by teams from Barcelona, Manchester, Chelsea, Arsenal etc etc etc.

Now, if youre talking about "american football", I agree absolutely, they dont care, I dont care, the world outside the USA dont care !!!!!

I never did understand watching any game after it is known who won. BTW the Sugar Bar last year had over 70 customers eating, drinking and watching the game LIVE and they will do the same if not better this year.

Funny, the people of London seem to disagree:

"Opinion is still pretty divided about whether an NFL team in London would actually work. London is generally supportive of the idea, as the NFL seems seem to be, but lots of fans still have legitimate concerns about travel to-and-from the games, and whether the city can actually sustain a team long-term.
What’s undeniable is that people, right now, are flocking to the games. 83,624 people showed up for the game on Sunday, while London’s second game between the Bills and the Jaguars boasted 84,021 people, making it the second-most attended London game since Pats-Buccaneers in 2009. It all led to a combined average attendance of 83,877, higher than both the 83,523 three-game average last year and the two-game 83,538 in 2013."

Rubbish. There is even an "American Football" world cup

Personally I'd rather watch 90 scoreless minutes of the beautiful game than watch NFL behemoths and I don't even know who is in the the Superbowl this year, but you can't beat the atmosphere. Cheergirls and Beergirls! In Japan even Baseball is enjoyable, a sport about as exciting as watching paint dry

Trouble is the version of the Super Bowl aired here in Thailand doesn't have all the cool commercials that the companies pay a fortune to air. I'll just wait until they're available on YouTube a few hours later. Often they're the best part of the broadcast.

One of the best Super Bowls I've watched was a summary after the fact. The video was nothing except each play with occasional highlights rerun.

Huddle, lineup snap play; huddle, lineup snap play. The entire super bowl in a little over an hour. I prefer to watch the athleticism and plays, and could give a rip about commentary, commercials, and Janet Jackson prop failures or anything else to do with (boring) half-times. Pragmatic to a fault. If I'm with a group it's different. Then I can enjoy camaraderie with my friends between plays.

The adverts ( and the half time show) are more entertaining than the game itself!!

?????

Buy a 400 baht ticket to watch the game in a pub? <deleted>?

The real question is: which bar has the biggest, nicest TV? If it's not an 80-incher, then might as well sit at home and relax.

I am rooting for Denver, but doubt they'll pull it off.

Thanks for reminding me why I should watch it at home. Clearly, there will be many, who don't practice good NFL watching etiquette.

They're the only part worth watching.

I'm pretty certain you should be having a tailgate party at Thae Pae or something.

What is your beef? The man wanted to watch American football, and you have to bark krap about it.

His question had nothing to do with what you think about American football. We don't get on your Manchester sites and talk it down...so bear with us.

Why in the world would you even want to post on this thread, if you don't care??? facepalm.gif

slipperylobster, my only beef is that the man called it "football". Football was the game of eleven a side invented 150 years ago and which is by a long way the biggest game in the world. "Our" game is "football" the american game was called "gridiron", then became "american football"......but "football" it is not. OK now? Thats all !!!!

Oh, you mean soccer. Nah, we like watching real football.

(Btw, the average attendance at National Football League games in London is double the attendance at the average Chelsea home game. Just sayin'.)

You mean "soccer," don't you? ;)

American Football was first played in 1869 with soccer's first match in 1848... So, yes, older by 21 years.

At least in US football we don't fake getting hit or try to draw fouls by flopping or imaginary contact. Pretty much a sissy thing to do, don't you think?

That's a great idea. Perhaps, since you will be dropping your date off near Amora about that time; you could save us a spot. Of course, you could just bring him along. I doubt anyone will notice at 0600. on a Monday morning.

And that would be 'hunker-down' and no other variant, plz.

And that most respectable British pub, THE PUB will keenly open their doors for all on Super Bowl Monday, 6am, fire up the big screen, warm the easy chairs and serve up some tasty coffee, breakfast and beer?? I thought no beer till 11am, but could be wrong about that.

Yes, but then again they don't wear 20 kilos of girly padding either.
