Drunk Don't Drive Foundation thanks govt for rigorous law enforcement

BANGKOK, 2 February 2016 (NNT) – Drunk Don’t Drive Foundation Secretary General, Dr. Taejing Siriphanich and the Drunk Driving Victims' Network have visited Deputy Prime Minister Narong Phiphatthayasai to thank the government for its strict enforcement of laws against drunk driving.

In particular, the National Council for Peace and Order’s 46/2015 instruction confirming measures to address dangers arising from bike riding and vehicle driving while intoxicated, and announced in the Government Gazette at the end of last year which it's believed saved a lot of Thai people from dying in road accidents during the New Year festival.

The measures were also welcomed by a large number of people as can be seen from the result of the Suan Dusit poll which showed that 80.47 percent of the citizens support measures that tackle the problem of drunk driving.

Meanwhile, the 19.53% of those who didn't support the measures were unable to submit a vote in the poll due to being killed on the roads while drunk during the New Year Festival

So the 20% or 1/5 people who didn't vote in favour of not drinking or driving felt it unfair to be punished for breaking the law or rules? I'm guessing Somchai thought 80% acceptance stats would gain him an earlier lunch allowance. Hold the press - 1 in 5 of the general public believe it's wrong to tackle drunk drivers. 1 from 5!!!!!!!

Yes...1 out of 5 people (and probably more if the survey was reported accurately) here actually believe that they should be able to drink and drive. 1 from 5 of the general public feel it is safe and acceptable to get paraletic and get behind the wheel of a car. 1 from 5 of the folk we interact with each day think there isn't a problem with the current scheme of things.

unfortunately, Drunk Don’t Drive Foundation Secretary General, Dr. Taejing Siriphanich was killed by a drunk driver on his way home after his meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Narong Phiphatthayasai.

The drunk driver, identified only as a female Thai television celebrity, left the scene saying she was to distraught to talk to police as her Mercedes was completely destroyed in the accident.

While USA-trained Dr. Taejing is a member of the toothless Thai National Human Rights Commission, he does have an otherwise interesting CV.

Lol rigorous enforcement? A guy I know in Pattaya got stopped at a checkpoint dui. Long story short "enforcement" cheered by op resulted in a 10,000 baht payment to said cops and nothing more.
