Why are they in Los if they aren't drinking and chasing birds

Quite simple, in my case, to get away from the immigrant filled , overtaxed, expensive to live in UK.

Don't drink, but have a beautiful wife, so no need to chase birds.

Every one that married thinks the wife is beautiful here, but I never seen a true stunner yet, in fact it's the total opposite and still can't figure it out, maybe yours is the exception.

Yes, you have a point, but IMO there are plenty of stunners here in Thailand, and as for my wife, apart from her height (she is 5ft 9Ins) she just looks like a typical Thai lady.

Nah I meant stunning wives. But yes plenty of stunners around, can't argue with that

there's very little government interference in my daily life, I don't feel regulated in any meaningful way, should I go on or is that enough.

And,

Buy a bottle of beer in my local shop anytime I wanted (that it was open).

No government interference with your life in Thailand?

Are you sure?

You're, ever the devils advocate MJ! rolleyes.gif

I don't drink hardly so not being able to buy booze 24 hours a day is not an issue. And I do think that liquor licensing hours are sensible, they force people to practice restraint, ah yes, there's that word again.

So yes, I'm certain there's the absolute minimum of government interference in my life.

Banning the sale of alcohol between the hours of 2.00pm and 5.00pm is Draconian, not sensible !

How is it draconian? To me it is simple.

Either buy it from 11 until 2, 5 until 10 or 11 at the western supermarkets and 7/11 or alternatively during those hours at the local whisky shop or a Mom and Pop shop.

Your problem is easily solved with no stress or hassle, though perhaps a little forward planning may be in order.

I rarely forward plan a drink and don't want to buy when I'm not in the mood because.... I end up drinking it anyway. It's draconian, no other way to describe it. maybe a move to Russia is on the cards [emoji1]

There are stunners around, although I think falangs would need fairly deep pockets to attract their interest.

IMHO, Thai women are more engaging because they look after themselves much better. They don't let themselves degenerate into overweight slobs. My Thai GF freaks out when she hits 42 kg, and stops eating until she is back to 40 kg.

Don't care what she looks like, I just turn the light out, anything under 50Kg will do.

And I couldn't find that in the UK.

Please, why do some consider the Government is "interfering", especially as it relates to buying alcohol? It isn't alcohol per se but the quantity! if you buy in reasonable quantity you can buy anytime from just about anywhere. And even if you couldn't, you could just do a little planning and buy in advance.

And even if you couldn't do that, you don't have to go far to buy a can of beer at any time from those little stores where the timing law is ignored.

Regarding other "interferences": I have experienced zero (including two military coups) in more than 13 years of living in various areas of Thailand.

Before I came to live in Thailand there were three determining factors that I needed to satisfy myself with that could be met for the remainder of my life: the climate, cost of living and, most importantly, the people. After 13 years, I remain satisfied and broadly speaking fulfilled.

I am never bored. Being happy or bored is state of mind, not of situation.

If the law regarding alcohol sales is not restrictive, as you say, why did they implement it in the first place ?

If somebody wants to buy, say, 3 large beers from Tesco at 2.15pm, why should he be forced to buy 2 cases if he wants to make a purchase ?

I haven't said it isn't restrictive - it is, but on the amount. I could say why not go to Tesco at 1.55pm but I realise in real life it is not always convenient but to my mind, if I can't buy a beer between 2 and 5 then I will wait, I am not that desperate. If I feel only mild irritation I cannot consider the law as 'interfering". I have no important opinion on whether the law is justified mainly because I am virtually unaffected. And yes, I DO drink alcohol - not to the point of being angry because I can't buy it just when I want to. Look, let us be reasonable - my points already mentioned show there is very little hardship for us to worry about!

My point is, why not get rid of the silly 2.00pm - 5.00pm law ?

It in no way affects me, in fact, it probably does not affect many people at all. So why implement it in the first place ?

Stopping eating to lose weight is not too clever.

It's not bad if you plan for it. Fasting has been around since the beginning of time and the health benefits are well documented. However if you stop eating because of stress then other factors come in to play

Doctors recommend fasting regularly. My doctor used to say if you want to lose weight, push yourself away from the table. Is this an opinion, or do you have some facts to back it up?

Only what qualified doctors have said, but, what do they know ?

Either I go for. 2 hour walk or an hour bike ride each day and sometimes a half hour or so of exercise. Plan next out of country trip and take trip. Visit areas of interest in Thailand in the mountains or islands. Cooking some, eating, video game, social media, shopping, work on house, water yard, drive here and there. Pretty much the same stuff I'd be doing back in the states but without having to watch my spending so much and without watching out for cops looking to nail me with a big fine for whatever excuse they can come up with.

Write, go the gym, swim a mile, eat lunch, take a nap, fast walk the beach, fool around in the music studio, have a cocktail, eat dinner, maybe go out and get loaded, bang the TG, sleep.

I'm very very busy doing nothing. I have no idea how I ever had the time to have a job.

I can't believe how much fun my LOS retirement is. I never want this to end. I suppose I'll eventually have to die, damn it. The last 5 years have been the most rewarding of my life.

It's taken five years to do all that?

Do the same in a long weekend

Why are they in Los if they aren't drinking and chasing birds

Because the climate is enjoyable, the cost of living inexpensive, the people are very pleasant, there's lots of things to do and interesting sites to see, the medical care is good, the food is excellent, there's very little direct taxation, loads of interesting places are within easy rich of an inexpensive ticket, there's very little government interference in my daily life, I don't feel regulated in any meaningful way, should I go on or is that enough.

you could whinge and bitch about how wonderful CM immigration is

Thanks for pointing that out: ....and the Immigration process is very simple, I give everything to a visa agent and for less than 150 quid a year they take care of all of it and I only have to go to Immigration once year for fiver minutes, on an appointment basis!

What do retired folks do? That means the normal folks who don't drink, smoke or chase girls and are happy living alone. ;)

They dedicate their time to Thai visa telling others what fabulous lives they lead in this paradise of a country.

Often the reality is in stark contrast to what they post, bemoaning the visa process, dangerous roads and a disdain for older men having sex with young girls.

Incidentally some play Bridge and eat 35 baht noodle soup while others live in sprawling homes in the arse end of nowhere, curtain twitchers are also known to reside here.

Others prefer to take on the the role of immigration officers going over the same mundane questions in and out like its a badge of honour knowing Thai visa immigration rules,I've been known to get sucked into that also through sheer boredom.

Some like to discuss the cheapest means of getting around Jomtien and Pattaya all the while secretly wishing things could just be like home by hoping on the air con bus or trolley, metro.

Some are literally stuck here, living in a world of absolute hatred, not eating Thai food not speaking the language all the while tolerating the people that they have chosen to live around.

Then there are those that are really happy, but you won't find them on Thai visa forum as they are far to busy enjoying life to be sat on here all day.

Some people spend an inordinate amount of time chastising posters who are stupid enough to mention their retirement visa - it's not a retirement visa etc etc ad nauseam

Amen. And when I go to CM immigration they have a sign up for people needing "retirement visa" . Guess they don't follow TV.

Is thailand really cheap? I rent my condo out in bangkok for probably only 25% cheaper than for what I would ask in a similar location in the West. Sure it's a saving for the renters but it's not "amazing" happy hour beers are OK but after that your paying they same price as in the West and it's a small glass and it's shit beer, how can you compare Chang to your favorite beer back home and if you want it here you have to pay double . Food is rubbish with unidentifiable slivers of meat on your rice, msg, loads of sugar in everything

All the best stuff, real beef, wine cheese is silly prices.

IMO if it wasn't for the cheap gash most of us would move on pretty quickly

Quite simple, in my case, to get away from the immigrant filled , overtaxed, expensive to live in UK.

Don't drink, but have a beautiful wife, so no need to chase birds.

Every one that married thinks the wife is beautiful here, but I never seen a true stunner yet, in fact it's the total opposite and still can't figure it out, maybe yours is the exception.

Not everyone is attracted to the same thing thank god. What I find attractive, you may find plain or not even worth a second glance and vice versa. It does not mean that those wives are not beautiful, they are perhaps just not beautiful to you.

I personally eat all I want and then just stick a finger down my throat and puke. After that I eat as much as I want and repeat.

I've thought exactly this for a long time now.

When you pro rata the cost of everyday items to the average daily wage for a Thai compared to an average westerner, it's insanely expensive.
