Rent A Car For 1 Week

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone

Please advice if you know any reasonable car rent place to rent a medium size car for 1 week in 1st week of march.

These big car rental companies are quite dear.

If anyone knows a private car rental place who can offer good prices - that will be great.

Thanx

I don't know of a company to recommend but I will say one thing - make sure you get an 'international driving license' before you come or you won't be renting a car from any reputable company.

Incorrect - I just rented from Avis, (a reputable international company), and all I showed them was my UK licence. The only time you would need to show an international licence is if your licence is not written in English.

the old do you need or not need an international driving permit debate,

when i looked for a friend i thought avis were well priced, (5880baht for 7 days) so it would depend on what you were hoping to pay

Get ready for a fleecing courtesy of the RTP.

A word of caution for those using the "Big Name" car rental companies - this from personal experience.

Yes, there is no doubt you can rent something like a Vios for about 800 - 1000 per month with full insurance.

You are asked for a Deposit of around 20,000 baht. That's OK. The agency confirm this deposit will be cancelled from your credit card at the end of the rental period.

So far so very good....

BUT....

When your rental is finished you will be told that the Rental Agency will hold your deposit for a further 14 days - which turns out to be around 21 to 25 days - interest free.

It means if you depend on that 20,000 to pay your bills whilst on holiday - you're sunk.

I've tried Krungthai Car Rent and now use them all the time. There was a 30000 baht deposit but when I returned the car, the agent would call the credit card company in front of me and cancel the charge. Never had a problem with them before. Full insuarance provided and price for Vios was around what was stated, maybe a bit more after taxes.
