Seems these days the Russians have some very interesting arms, and they are considerably cheaper than the US military industrial complex ripoffs.

Wish Australia would dump that overpriced lemon F35, and buy some of those news MIGS. Not only does it seem a vastly superior plane but it is way cheaper. Also with the amount of sorties the Russians have been flying seems also very reliable.

If we ever went up against a country using those and we had the F35 then we'd get our <deleted> kicked. US used to build very good planes, but seems not any more.

Believe those cruise missiles the Russians blasted those ISIS dogs with also have a much better price tag. Plus those S300 & 400 missile defence is supposedly very very good.

Not sure if Thailand is drifting away from the empire or whether they've been pushed. There again they are perhaps just following colonial history and trying to be friendly with all powerful parties.

Absolute Lunacy...

The Asean-US summit set the stage for this to happen. America is grasping to get help and at the same time trying to keep an image of that they are the pillar of democracy. America has made the mistake of letting Asean countries see it desperation. Asean counries thrive on taking advantage of people and things when they are vulnerable, that is where they survive. Obama sold out America finally. There is no turning back. Now Thailand knows America needs them more than Thailand needs America.

Take Thailand out of the picture for America in south east asia and America loses not Thailand. Thailand knows this now for sure and will use it to the max.

Americas greed is coming home to roost.

Are you Mad...

I'd say beyond mad! Not dipping with both oars in the water comes to mind

Why is there so much negativity? Just because the poorly chosen article title uses the word "flirt" doesn't mean that foreign relations are like a romantic relationship or should be "monogamous."

It makes sense for Thailand to have good relations with all nations, especially major powers like Russia, China and the US.

During Cold the War, many nations were forced to choose a side to their detriment (or deliberately did so to advance regional goals), but that concept isn't relevant now.

I can understand why Thailand would be pursuing closer relations with China. I don't think it is a good idea, but it is understandable. To pursue a closer relationship with Russia demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of what that government represents, and where their economy is going.

But, the US is partly to blame for this. Their current foreign policy is horrific, and both Obama and Kerry are demonstrating on a daily basis how far in over their heads, they really are. Churlish, silly, inane, and non visionary are just a few of the adjectives that come to mind. There is nothing coherent about US foreign policy these days. They forced democracy down the throats of Egypt, Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Algeria. All are currently shining examples of what happens when you follow the lead of the US.

I am not saying that I agree with, or support the current bunch of class clowns here, nor their style (or lack thereof) of governing. But, the US has done a very, very good job of alienating a very good, and old friend here in Thailand, and some consideration must be given to the consequences of those actions.

Wikipedia...Hah! It has faced much scrutiny in the New World Order as it was built by Western institutes who have always modifed it's contents and truthness in accordance with political correctness, which is currently reffered to as immoral and inhumane practice. So go ahead and believe all that is wikipedia. Does it mention that the original creator of the Nobel Peace prize foundation was in fact Adolf Hitler's weapons designer and military adviser? You who all follow Western mainstream media know nothing or either support these monsters

He must have been going some to have been Adolf Hitler's weapons designer.

His name was Alfred Nobel. He was Norwegian and died December 10th 1896 which was a little earlier than when Hitler came to power.

On June 29, 2000, the Nobel Foundation celebrated its 100th anniversary. The Foundation and especially the Nobel Prizes - which were first awarded in 1901 - are closely linked to the history of modern science, the arts, and political development throughout the 20th century.

http://www.nobelprize.org/nobel_organizations/nobelfoundation/history/lemmel/index.html

If you notice the link is not that of Wikipedia but of the Nobel organisation.

I suggest that before you post thing that you do a little research first as it may save you making a bigger fool of yourself as you managed to do with your post.

Adolph Hitler? Wow! Next you fossils will referencing T-Rex.

If you had read the post you would see that I was replying to an earlier post and was correcting the poster and pointing to error of his ways.

As for T-Rex they were an OK pop group whilst Marc Bolan until he was killed in a car crash in September 1977.

America needs Thailand ?? Are you on crack ?? America's

policies in Asia has long since shifted away from Thailand,

and onto countries such as Vietnam.

So let's see , what countries to warm up to with a favorable

opinion of current affairs in Thailand. China ? Check.

Russia ? Check. Next up, North Korea ?? :-)

Hmm. Who needs Usa? Vietnam is soon to be Chinese or Russian which complies to their own politics.....

birds of a feather flock together

You have a very poor knowledge of history if you do not

understand the hatred that Vietnam has for China.....

Let's see. Communist countries. Only six, China,

Russia, Vietnam, Cuba, Laos and North Korea.

A pretty rough crowd except for Laos... :-)

Democracy in America ? You must be kidding !

Which would you consider more democratic, USA or Thailand?

IMHO an essential defining element of a democracy is 'freedom of speech'. In this respect Thailand is on a different planet compared to USA. If anyone disagrees, I suggest they accompany 10 Thai students on a corruption fact-finding trip to a certain new tourist attraction in Hua-Hin.

Americans only like freedom of speech when it suits them. They were not very happy with Julian Assange. Anyone remember Guantanamo? Shhhhhh

If it wasn't for freedom of speech, you have have never heard the truth about Assange or Guantanamo. Why do you think it's in the process of being shut down. Public opinion based on what they've read and seen. Great stuff. Freedom of speech is a big deal to the average American.

And of those countries, Laos, Cuba and N. Korea are utter failures, on nearly every level of society, and their economies, agriculture, health care (despite the attempts at PR by the Cubans, I have spent time there, and it is all false bravado) and much more, are pathetic. Communism simply does not work. China is the real exception to that rule, when it comes to the economy, but on so many other levels, the country is a dismal failure.

Russia is currently experiencing a period of difficulty, this is indisputable.

This is the perfect time to reach out and build strong relationships. Exactly as we would in our own lives for a sincere friend.

After receiving Mahmoud Abbas, the privileged relationship with Myanmar and China this new act still deviates a bit Thailand of moralizing west. Good external politic IMHO.

In Europe as some (including me) begin to campaign for release of NATO and a rapprochement with the East of President Putin. Trump election could accelerate this movement but the Pope just had removed his last chances.

Is that the charge they will pursue? Speaking? LOL. I don't think so. Could it be for publishing state secrets? If so, that's a crime in any country. Try doing that in Russia? LOL!!!!

No. For knowingly and willing possessing and distributing stolen classified US government information which was not his.

If you think I am on crack your post makes me feel you are on on crack on steroids.

If you donot think USA needs Thailand you delusional.

Of course other countries will compete for American trade but cannot compete for Asian presence that Thailand has.

You guys who are pro American are in my humble opinion beating a dead horse. America is desperate but of course no one wants to admit it when they are. I can respect patriotism and supporting your country. But I as an outsider can see the truth. So I am sorry for the Americans living in denial..

There is negativity because Putin, ex KGB is a thief and a liar who has sold his country down the river. He is of the same ilk as Stalin who murdered and enslaved millions of Russians and their vassal states. The current Russia is a mafia Kleptocracy.

I would love to think that Thailand has value but the reality is that the USA needs Thailand like Ann Frank needed a drum kit.

Prayut needs anyone to be his friend. His choices are quite limited to those having military rule, communist governments or countries governed by corruption on behalf of a minority.

Choices limited? You have just described the governments of pretty much all countries.
