BANGKOK: -- Transport deputy minister Omsin Chivapruek on Monday questioned the Marine Department over the sinking of the Chinese cruise ship off Sri Racha coast last Saturday after it was anchored there for over two years.

He said such incident should not happen again and he has ordered the Marine Department to check if there is still any vessel which anchored off any coast for a long time so that it be moved out.

For the Ocean Dream cruise ship, he said it was anchored there over two years.

It belonged to Shanghai Eastime Ship Management, he said.

He said the ship owner told Thai authorities on March 2014 that it would sail to Unithai shipyard for repair.

But until today it was still there and officials didn’t have any action, he said.

He said authorities have also coordinated with a local maritime firm to contact the Chinese owner and take full responsibility for the cost to move the ship away

The sunken ship caused no environment threat as authorities have use chemicals tom spray the light oil slicks near the wreckage site, he added.

Ocean Dream capsized last Saturday while anchored around 2 miles off Laem Chabang port located in Sri Racha on Thailand’s east coast. Local news reports the vessel had been abandoned by the owners for over a year.

The cruise ship is operating under the flag of Panama and managed by Shanghai Eastime Ship Management. Ocean Dream was built in 1972 at Fincantieri Riva Trigoso shipyard in Italy.

just keep those questions simple,...I suggest yes/no questions, nothing complicated that would require an explanation, do not ask "why?"

Wow..

This reminds me of the movie, Mysterious Island.

Where small things get big. And big things get small.

But here in Thailand....Jackasses rule.

Whoops, that's Pinocchio.

No, you got it right in the 3rd line......

Dont worrie !

time will solve it,

iron will rost down,

the sea will do its work !

That would be OK if she was lying in 200 fathoms of water, but at the moment she's a navigation hazard and should be righted and towed to a breakers beach.

You eat the fish full of marine oil and chemical dispersants. Would you like some Agent Orange with your Sushi?
