Egypt minister fired after comments about Prophet Muhammad
MARAM MAZEN, Associated Press

CAIRO (AP) — Egypt's government spokesman says the prime minister has fired the justice minister, two days after he said on TV he would even imprison the Prophet Muhammad if he committed a crime.

Cabinet spokesman Hossam Qawish tells The Associated Press Sunday that Ahmed el-Zind was "released from his position," without providing further details.

El-Zind said Friday in a television interview that he would put anyone who violates the law in prison, "even if he is the prophet, peace and blessing be upon him."

El-Zind quickly followed by saying "I ask God for forgiveness" for making the comment.

But that did not prevent a backlash by faithful Muslims as well as criticism on social media.

Hmmm, under Sharia Mohammad would have got a free pass by definition. Had the minister stated he'd hand Mohammad over to the ICC in The Hague I would have been impressed.

Gees ! And, this is in a country, which I thought would move away from Islamism, after a large number of secularist protestors (with the help of the army) ended the Islamofascist regime of Morsi.

Sadly, there is very little reason (if any) to be hopeful about the near future of the Islamic majority countries. Maybe only Bosnia offers some hope.

Trump was right. Don't let them in from any moslem country.

So, your answer to Islamofascism is another type of fascism ?!

What about millions of secularist, anti-violence Muslims, as well as atheists and agnostics (I am an agnostic for example) who just happen to be citizens of Islamic majority countries ?! Don't let them in too ?!

This is just crazy and bigoted.

The world is becoming an increasingly polarised and hateful place, with such attitude.

Ways should be discussed to crush (really crush hard) Islamofascism. Discriminating against Muslims in general is NOT the solution, man.

It may seem like the solution to short-sighted and narrow-minded individuals, namely Trump supporters.

Islamism is Islamism, not Islamofascism. There is no need to import a Western term/ideology to describe a purely Islamic movement. And, no, I don't think you can sort the good from the bad. Because the bad may well be masquerading as the good.

Police could never arrest Muhammed even if he violated some Sharia law. He would just have another "revelation" that would get him out of that fix. This was done during his life if you read the history, so why expect different outcome?

Religions seem to have their "fundamentalists/extremists". Many religions also have those who distort the teaching of their faith in order to suit their own ends.

I shall remain faithless! coffee1.gif

I do not need reward or punishment for things I do or not do. If I can help someone I will do because I can.

It takes faith...in one's self...to remain faithless...

Not all religions promote bigotry and hate...but some people in all religions hide behind their religion to create crimes against humanity...

Love and compassion will trump (no pun intended)...hate and disdain for one's fellow-man.

Well I do believe things may be improving in Egypt. Not so long ago any man making comments like the Minister would have been hung or stoned alive already.

He would still probably qualify for refugee status on the basis of persecution for religious beliefs in most western countries.

I agree with your sentiments. You as a Muslim don't have a defective brain or defective genes. You have the same rights and dignity as all of mankind, it would only be right for you to be judged by your behavior and nothing else.

There is of course a but. You have been dealt a problematic label (Muslim) which carries with it baggage from birth (as do I being Jewish). It is undeniable that Islamofascism is a large world problem, in a way no other religion currently is. Muslims have been let down by their leaders in not modernizing but also by western leaders. The mass immigration from Muslim Countries twinned with the failure to stamp down on extremists has made it an enormous task to start now. I have repeatedly observed there are no liberal solutions left, a situation I abhor but also recognize, which is why I'm sympathetic to the segregation of cultural groups a la Samuel Huntingdon.

Returning to the main thread, don't be too disparaged by the resignation of the Egyptian minister. What he said was a step too far ahead of his time. I have high hopes that El-Sisi is a great man in the mould of Ataturk. I think the Middle East will look far better in five years or so. I only wish I could be more optimistic about Europe.

Interesting to consider the levels of civilization Egypt achieved through its history under both the Pharaohs as opposed to Mohammadism.

Indeed an earthquake flattened much of Cairo a few years back, the Valley of the Kings was unscathed.

Sick, demented, brainwashed religious fanatics taking everything to extreme.

Sick, demented, brainwashed religious fanatics indeed, like George W. Bush calling his war on Iraq a 'crusade'.

Sorry but you are ignoring the great flowering of Islamic culture under the Fatamid, Umayyad and Abbasid caliphates mostly centred in Egypt but extending as far as Pakistan in the East and Spain in the west. While the Western world descended into the dark ages, the caliphates supported huge advances in Islamic art, poetry, philosophy, mathematics, science, astronomy etc.

Egyptian minister says the truth. If it is law, they need to be applied same to all, even if they are prophet, imam, high ranking positions or army guy.

and usernames,

so now you name what is what?

dont be funny. at those muslim lands, lots of atheists, buddhists, agnostics, left wing guys, anarchists etc etc.

good and bad masquerades at every religion.

so basically it is same like saying all Christians are bloody due to the bloody ancient sayings in Bible? eye to eye, tooth to tooth?

or christian countries are the countries with the most child abuse cases and pedophiles. so shall we say all Christians are pedos? of course we cannot! bc there are good Christians and bad Christians and good people and bad people. same as there are good and bad muslim.

but hatred, prejudice and brain washing machines like Trump turn people into zombies!

When you are in a position of power, well, you should be fired if you make a silly or stupid comment on television.

And if you are in Egypt, and you say something like this, well, you are being silly and stupid. Got to be fired.
