PHNOM PENH - Motorists navigating the gridlocked streets of Cambodia's capital Phnom Penh are from Tuesday facing a stricter set of new traffic rules, the Cambodia Daily reports.

"From March 15, 2016, traffic police will increase the inspection and strict implementation of the law for those not wearing helmets, speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, not driving in the correct lane, driving overloaded or poorly loaded transport vehicles and vehicles in unsafe condition," Interior Minister Sar Kheng said in a statement.

According to the director of the National Police's public order department, Lieutenant General Run Rathveasna, today marks a shift from merely educating motorists about the law to actually enforcing it. "It is time for everyone to respect the law," he said.

That is enforcement, Cambodian-style wink.png

But if you were clearly in the wrong, even pre-crackdown, usually more than $1...especially if there is more than one policeman present as no way will they settles for under $1 a piece.
