Looking for a first ever coffee machine.

Presumably they're called a grinder or something.

One with a timer if possible, it really only be used for one's morning coffee.

If can plug it in and set it for 8am to have a freshly grounded pot of coffee, great.

Or one where you add the ground beans yourself.

If can make a latte, fantastic.

Though I guess something like that for 5k baht or there abouts isn't really possible.

any recommendations on a machine??

Thanks.

I bought a Krups burr grinder at Robinson's several years ago. It grinds my 1.5kg of coffee each month......no problems at all.

If you're retired.....or have the time for a perfecto cuppa each time, invest in a Bialetti moka express. Should be much less than 2000 baht. It makes just one cup. Takes all of 4 total minutes to make. Nuke a few ounces of fresh milk for about 30 seconds while your coffee is brewing. Spin the nuked milk up with a small whisk between your hands. Insert freshly brewed coffee. There's nothing nothing nothing that compares. I've tried them all......nothing.

JPO, of course.

I use Dark Roast Zolito beans from Makro......about 180 Baht per 500g. Bialetti moka express. Nuked milk. Fresh grind. Perfecto!

^ So you buy those beans, stick 'em in a grinder, then just spoon them into nuked milk?

Do you grind them daily, or grind the whole month's worth and keep it in a jar?

cheers.

What are these Nescafe Machines like?

Not sure if you need to buy special capsules for the Latte etc, or if you fill up the machine with the coffee and whatever, and then it makes it 'fresh'.

I agree but now the coffee in every Thai hotel/coffeeshop tastes like old tea.

We need one to bring with us since coffee is very important to start the day properly.

^^^ They certainly qualify for the least scientific comparison ever made award!

No proper measurement of either coffee or water, and totally different brew times.

Looks to me like the Aeropress only makes a small cup.

The Wife and I like big cups in the morning so would have to buy two by the looks of it.

Thanks for all the replies.

I never really liked the French Press.

Bit too much work and waiting.

I need my morning coffee quick and easy. :D

I will probably go for this:

Steamer for one's Latte.

Grind the beans and put them in the machine before going to bed, turn it on, which I presume is okay to do overnight on a coffee machine(?)

then wake up (kind of) steam one's milk, place under and pour.

Think that would suit me.

The photo is a bit deceptive. If you fill it it makes a normal mug (which they call four cups on the scale on the side).

As there is very little waiting or cleaning involved you could easily make a second, or make it twice as strong and add extra water to the cups.

you can get similar at verasu, likely higher quality, also a quality grinder is as much as the machine itself generally. i wouldnt expect that thing to last a week.

Steam on these units is passable, but more trouble than its worth in my opinion. 50 seconds in the microwave will heat your milk.

as for turning it on at night - fine if you want to destroy the heating element or burn down your kitchen.

this is an espresso machine, it heats up to operating temp in about 5 mins.

personally i would suggest you actually get a clue about what it is coffee wise you wish to achieve, then go from there.

take a look at verasu, its a good place to see all your options in one place and get a feel for general quality of the merchandise.

Also i would consider buying espresso gind beans and saving yourself the indignity of a crappy non-burr grinder. a consistent grind is necessary for espresso and a cheap grinder wont cut it. coffe shops can grind for you and lanna and bon cafe brands do pre gound coffee with a nice grind for these machines

Also look for an espresso machine with a minimum of a 16 bar pump. anything less wont be able to properly drive the water through the grinds.

but it sounsd to me like you want a set and forget drip brew set up

Yes. They look good but where can you get in Thailand?

Everything you read recommend the French Press

Get them at any coffee specific supply house like

Hillkoff

Or

Bluekoff

A simple burr hand grinder & an aeropress will do great coffee

Of course there is a learning curve but it is all good

Keep notes on your bean quantity used ...grind size & extraction time

That is about it

Basically their simple instructions is a great starting point

After that you experiment to your taste

I have one of those and they are great But and it's a big BUT it tells you to turn off once you have made your coffee. MUST not be left one as it will burn out the element.

I use already ground coffee just make sure you keep it well wrapped and in a cold place (Fridge) when not wanted.

N/B only takes a minute of two to heat up from cold.

I have found that if you switch it on put coffee in dispenser by the time you have put the Dispenser back and put cup under it's ready for use.

Sold in many shops Index for one, around 3.500bt
