PHUKET: -- An appeal for any information regarding the whereabouts of missing Frenchman Francois Louet, also known as “Jeff”, has reached Phuket since his disappearance from Surat Thani last week.

"His mother lives in Phuket so he may have headed your way,” The Phuket News was told by email yesterday.

Family, friends, police and rescue services have still not been able to establish the whereabouts of Mr Louet, who went missing in Surat Thani on his way back to Koh Tao, reports the Samui Times.

Mr Louet had been diving in Indonesia with his girlfriend. During his trip he had been unwell with an infection in his leg. He had taken medication for a fever, scuba dived to 60 metres, had lost his appetite and had shown signs of illness and disorientation. (See stories here and here.)

When the couple arrived at the pier in Surat Thani on Monday, March 14, to take the night boat back to Koh Tao, Jeff and his girlfriend boarded the boat to rest.

Prior to departure, Mr Louet went out to have a cigarette. When his girlfriend went to check on him he had gone. A local lady said that she saw him, as he had asked for directions to the nearest 7-Eleven.

Nobody has seen or heard from Mr Louet since around 10pm that Monday.

His mother lives in Phuket ! .......... I would surely have expected friends & the BIB would have already contacted his mother as soon as he was reported missing.

Koh Tao is a dangerous place. Everybody knows to keep away or you may end up as other have.

Just keep looking for the french guy.

He didn't go to Koh Tao, he disappeared in Surat Thani.

This might have something to do with his disappearance:

Mr Louet had been diving in Indonesia with his girlfriend. During his trip he had been unwell with an infection in his leg. He had taken medication for a fever, scuba dived to 60 metres, had lost his appetite and had shown signs of illness and disorientation.

I'm saying that such a deep dive, when unwell, could be very dangerous, and there is a possibility that he may be suffering from decompression sickness and not making rational decisions.

koh Tao is a dangerous place??? really take a look at Samui or any of the other tourist destination and compare the death rates. Dont talk about something you do not know.

His mother lives in France, and not Phuket so not sure where that story came from. There is a friend of the mother who lives in Phuket but she is not a friend of Jeans.
