PHUKET: -- Two Patong pub security guards were arrested yesterday (Mar 23) for a stabbing incident in Soi Sansabai in the early hours of yesterday morning which left a French tourist dead and a second tourist wounded.

The main suspect, 33-year-old Somporn Kakkaew, confessed to police that the stabbing took place because he believed he was going to loose a fight with the two tourists named as French national Akim Boukheddouma, 24, (the deceased) and 23-year-old Moroccan Said Missoury.

Lt Col Suthichai Tienpo from Kathu police together with Tourists police investigated the incident and after checking CCTV footage from the area discovered that Somporn had an accomplice who joined the fight just before the stabbing took place.

“Somporn told us that he had just finished work and was heading home on his motorbike when two drunk tourists lurched into his bike. They accused him of driving his motorbike into them before an argument ensued, which escalated into a fight,” he said.

Somporn told police: “Even though Somkit came to help me, I realised I was not going to win the fight because both tourists were stronger than us so I decided to use the weapon.”

Lt Col Suthichai concluded, “Both men confessed and gave details of the incident, which matches the CCTV footage we obtained. We have all the evidence including the knife and key witnesses. Both men will be punished according to law.”

500 baht fine for Somporn.

Frenchman's family ordered to pay for damages to Somporn's motorbike. And provide a replacement knife for Somporn while waiting for court date.

Next case.

Security guards yet again. Patong is full of low IQ, violent scumbags, looking for trouble. The story will be twisted and they will get off with a light sentence in about 3 years when it goes to court.

"In Phuket, we have approximately 10,000 Moroccans visiting the island each year. This might seem like a small number, but most are considered VIPs. They all arrived on private jets and stayed at least one month in hotels and resorts across the island,”

Anyone remember this quote from the Moroccan Ambassador a month ago? I wonder where this guy parked his private jet?

So called pub security loosing face. Can't win a fair fight. Jez ... I expect he won't do much if any time for murdering a tourist.

It's our Farang duty to die in the face of diversity even or more so on the beaches. How else will tv armchair detectives be able to determine as and why it's our faults for coming here on holidays.

Just saying......

Oh thats ok then. Killed him to avoid losing face.

And these mentally inferior beings are employed to provide security.

....maybe 20% of the population some would estimate.....

...a lot of similar 'beings' everywhere you turn......

When will people finally learn that they simply cannot verbally abuse Thai people without expecting things to go extremely pear-shaped?

Thai people by nature and way of culture are genuinely very calm and courteous people, and it is generally considered that; ‘he who loses control first, ultimately loses face’, unless of course when alcohol is involved, in which case all bets are off and anything goes.

That used to be all well and good, until things started to change dramatically for the worse around 10 years ago along with the arrival of younger farang males and the eastern European community at large, and it’s gone firmly downhill from there.

Personally, I stopped frequenting Walking Street and other problematic areas over 10 years ago, when I saw the calibre of tourist steadily change from older guys looking for a little romance, too gangs of roided up meat-heads, looking for a war…

I mention this purely to emphasise a point. Point being, the Thai community as a whole are now completely sick of the abuse dished out, on a daily basis, by the low lives they now have to put up with. And now with the new kids on the block arriving by the million, they’re even less tolerant to ignorance.

Ultimately, Thais have no tolerance to being verbally abused, or having their culture abused or spat on etc, etc, and rightly so, and rest assured, they will respond with deadly force.

And consider this: The average Thai male is around 50-60kg, whereas today the average farang is well over 100kg, so it’s kinda unrealistic to ever imagine a Thai will go one on one or not use some sort of weapon.

Morel of the story: Conduct yourself in a reasonable and respectful manner, and you will not have a problem. Rip off at the mouth and get physical with people much smaller than yourselves, you will reap what you sow!

Note: I am in no way condoning violence or abuse by either party. Violence and abuse are tools resorted to and used by those of limited intelligence…

So, a tourists goes on a holiday to Phuket, gets drunk, abuses a Thai, and deserves to die for it. I don't think so. Thai's working in the tourism industry are not judge, jury and executioner.

The hospitality sector of the tourism industry is all about serving food and beverage. This will lead to intoxicated tourists. If the Thai's can not show patience, restraint and tolerance, when dealing with drunks, they shouldn't be working in the industry.

They have no problems taking the profits from alcohol sales. They should know that alcohol change people's behavior, and not always for the best, but people do not deserve to be killed for it, unless it's in self defense.

Then, we have the many scams here that lead to conflict.

Do you really expect people to calmly pay up when they know they are being scammed?

You obviously missed the point entirely; even though I took the time to emphasise that I was not condoning violence.

My post was merely a suggestion as to why sh*t happens and how to avoid it!

But, you seem to have all the answers, so I’ll just let you sort it all out and explain it to the Thais…

P.S. Getting drunk and being abusive is a matter of personal choice, is no consequence in a court of law and should not be used as an excuse for p*ss poor behaviour!

I did not miss your point. In fact, I found your post quite contradictory.

On one hand, you say you do not condone violence, while on the other hand, you say if a tourist gets drunk and abuses a Thai, then "all bets are off and anything goes" - your words, not mine.

Why "anything goes?"

Shouldn't it be the case the Thai staff should be professional when dealing with drunk tourists, and not use their drunken abuse as an excuse to severely assault them, and on some occasions, kill them?

We all know the Thai's have the numbers to arrest and restrain a tourists. They come from everywhere to kick and punch a farang, but why the need to stab the guy to death?

It's a murder, simple as that. If they feel they need equipment to protect themselves, perhaps they can be allowed to use OC spray.

I don't need to "explain it to the Thai's." The majority of tourists coming to Phuket are now cheap Chinese package holiday tourists. Phuket is now being shunned by the western tourist market. It will be "explained to the Thai's" in job losses, vacant commercial premises, and falling revenues.

I agree getting drunk is a personal choice - tourists are not forced to drink.

If Phuket is such a dangerous place to get drunk, tourists should be informed of this, but they are not. Phuket is promoted as a party destination.

If this French tourists got drunk in France, and exhibited the same behavior, in all probability, he would still be alive, but not so on Phuket.

Which "court of law" are you talking about? In many countries, being intoxicated is a mitigating circumstance surrounding a crime. It's not a defense, or an "excuse" but is taken into account for sentencing.

Complete and utter horse pucky!

"On one hand, you say you do not condone violence, while on the other hand, you say if a tourist gets drunk and abuses a Thai, then "all bets are off and anything goes" - your words, not mine."

You've just taken 2 different statements from 2 different paragraphs, and twisted them to quantify your ridiculous theories.

So this is your opinion: ‘I’m a tourist and I want to get drunk and abuse foreigners and they should just grin and bare it because I’m on holiday and putting money in their pockets.’

Get yourself a job in the tourist industry, you’re a man of steel!

According to an eyewitness that posted in thephuketnews, here's what happened

"I was there with two others that night and the guy on the motorbike sped past us going too fast and way too close to the pedestrians as they walked home at the end of the night. He rode straight into the middle of a bunch of people. Two of whom took exception to his negligent driving behavior."

How can these security guards even dream up this story. Did they drug test the security guards if not why do they stop farangs on the street and make them take the drug tests. Guard probably friend with the police and a little police over site because they were Thai!

They are not French, theire names indicated they are native Morrocans. So by experience I believe the Thai version of the story. I think 99% of Dutch, Belgiand and French will agree with. Morrocans are well know trouble makers in those 3 countries.

As usual, to imply all Moroccans are trouble makers, is not unlike saying all Muslims are terrorists!

Lived with the Moroccan Berber Muslims for over 6 months and never had a problem, in fact as the only white amongst them, I always felt protected by them, although I am English. Had I been French or German, it most certainly would have been a different story.

Incidentally, I also lived on my farm and as part of a small Thai community for 3 years, never had a problem there either. I believe that in general, the way you conduct and present yourself to others, will in turn dictate the attitude and treatment of others towards you.

Of course there are always exceptions to any rule of thought!
