BANGKOK — Following government bans of two private motorbike taxi services for being out of regulatory compliance, the traditional, orange-vested operators were handed down a rate structure yesterday they must adhere to for long trips.

Under the new rate first proposed late last year, fares are capped for each kilometer after the second at a level that still compares unfavorably to those presently offered by the private, smartphone-based services.

If I've got this right, Grab/Uber services deliver a higher degree of real time, convenient service to the customer..... at a lower price.

The Transport Ministry calls that "anti-competitive"? blink.png

Juxtaposed to the Ministry of Science offering a 300% tax break to CEOs that engage in research, development and innovation. Unless, of course, the result of that upsets someone else's rice bowl.

free competition is not encouraged in Thailand mostly because of all the backhanders and fees that are exchanged between certain people, you see this sort of thing everywhere and in every type of business, thank goodness for family mart and 7/11 who have such a strong footing - they are the landmark in pricing for many convenience goods and have contributed to a fair pricing structure for many years.

Can you imagine a motor cycle taxi driver trying to calculate the fare for a 7.5km trip using this formula? cheesy.gifcheesy.gif They better have cheat sheets! I can see it now, new headlines, farang tourist shot/stabbed to death arguing with motor taxi driver over fares.

If this is how and what the employees of the transport ministry are spending their time on, paid for by taxpayer, they should all be

sent back to a school that teaches / what the cost of wasted time really is.

If a task is done poorly, the result must be torn out and start from the get go again. This applies to learning also.

Thus the first attempt time planning and learning /building /repairing/ etc is a total lost time. The disassembly or unlearning requires

at least 2 times more time just to get to the point of starting from the orginal starting point.

So in reality you will spend at least 3 times more than what the desired result should /would have cost if done properly the first time.

This same principle applies to most of the changes, tweaks, etc that these incompetent government employees make, recommend, etc It also increases the oppurnity to skim a little off of each change and /or creates the old ;"lets add a committee to review/ evaluate this proposal." paid of course and part of the family
