I am 49 year old German and have worked in Thailand in the last year at a government school. I want to leave the country and have heard that I need a cancellation letter from the school. I want to leave this time over land, eventually Laos or Cambodia and return with a 'visa on arrival'. I was on a work permit and Non-Imm Visa B until now. Do I need only the cancellation letter or are there more documents required?

  • If you have a non 'B' visa you don't need anything. You can see out the remainder of the 90 day stay, and if the visa is multiple entry and hasn't expired you can keep using it until it does.

If you have an extension of stay based on working then, if required, the cancellation letter should be enough.

You most likely have an "extension of stay" based on work. A Non-B Visa is only good for 90 days. Go to your nearest labor office

and cancel your work permit first. Then ask your school for the letter that states when your last day of work was. I did all this, and when

I went to Laos to get my new Non-B and left Thailand, the Immigration Officer never asked me for the letter. However, I do not think that

is the norm and I would make sure I have it.
