Sun Chanthol, the Minister of Commerce, was in Bangkok yesterday telling Thai business leaders and investors about the benefits of doing business in the Kingdom. The minister pointed out that Cambodia’s economy had increased by an average of 7.7 percent in recent years and was the sixth fastest growing economy in the world.

Mr. Chanthol was a guest speaker at a seminar on investment opportunities in Cambodia, jointly organized by the Stock Exchange of Thailand, the Chamber of Commerce of Cambodia and the Thailand-Cambodia Business Council. He told the seminar that the World Bank called Cambodia one of the Olympians of growth and added that the Kingdom boasted one of the most open investment regimes in the region.

Please don't forget to apply (on reciprocal basis) the 51%/49% ownership rule, the tremendous headache getting work permits on a capital/employee key rather than a business related issue and, on the way out, hand out everybody a copy of the CABL (Cambodian Alien Business Law).

If Somchai cannot read it, then let him talk to the labour department at Din Daeng (where only, mostly non-Thai-speaking, aliens apply with staff not speaking a word of English) and get a copy of the completely outdated vintage local alien business law (keeping professions like ice carving, hair dressing and double pricing in Thai-only domain).

H.E. Sun Chanthol, the Minister of Commerce, needs to learn, that Cambodians (like Laotians and Burmese) are considered lower class people not on par with Khun Thai.

Once this is solved - which will take generations and hence we shall not see it coming - then you might have possibly some fertile ground for more Commonness and less Thainess giggle.gif
