BANGKOK — Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission said he decided to walk out on a group of activists stating their grievances at a forum today because it wasn’t on the agenda.

Wat Tingsamitr, who late last year was appointed Thailand’s top defender of civil rights, said the community rights activists of the New Isaan Movement did not get permission before they started reading from a declaration condemning civil rights abuses in the northeast.

How dare that group try to use that meeting to express their concerns. Don't they know that this guy is a Junta Patsy and any problems arising from there would be pointless to argue or oppose? No wonder he left!

(Being considered an arrogant spineless patsy weasel is preferable to losing face, apparently.)

You can see the 'gentleman's point. When the only right the people have is the right to do as they are told, what is the point in his hanging around and arguing the toss?

Protesting during a meeting, whether on the agenda or not, is simply no longer allowed in Thailand. Dissident/disagreement is a very bad thing now. This is Thailand Now.

Another reason justifying Thailand's NHRC recent by the UN Human Rights Commission to status "B" that puts Thailand now in the same grade as Myanmar.

He is basically showing his and his employers contempt for the little people. A "we have no time to listen to your concerns, this is what your leaders think of you" sort of statement.

Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission - appointed Thailand’s top defender of civil rights.

Don Quijote in a country without windmills comes to mind.

Don Quijote riding a donkey also comes to mind.

No doubt he took guidance from the recent attitudes and comments of plodprasop:

- Local folks attending environmental hearings etc., have to register in advance and if they might be opposed to the plan (the budget opportunity) they not allowed to attend.

- If they talk too much and oppose then just label them as rubbish.
