Too fat and too pretty - Thai men who failed the Army draft

Featured Replies

The get-out bribe was 30,000b for ages (sometimes 20.000).

Has it really gone up to 60k? Coincidentally, a Thai friend tells me it is 50k now but I didn't believe him.

Im surprised it is still allowed, under the "government" now.

No need to bribe anyone - there is an official 'buy out' option of 10,000 baht.

I paid 40,000 to buy my bf out and found out later 'I was robbed'!

No longer my bf, needless to say as money was channelled thru him.

I'm a lot wiser now - I think!

But did the family buffalo recover?

The Americans allowed those with money to buy there way out of being drafted into the Union Army during the civil war.

Look at certain American politicians and past presidents and how they didn't serve in VN.

Money, position, family influence - fix things everywhere.

Boom, like Elvis Presley chose to serve his country. You are a good man Boon, thank you for your desire to serve His Majesty the King and Country.

Hehee so for those men who didn't want to be drafted, one day of humiliation dressing as a woman was all it took.

Something similar worked also in my country when it still was a big deal, and gays were not so open about there sexual orientation like now...

I remember a guy that was to feminine in he's behaviour....was not kept and could go home..after some more medical checks....I never knew if he really was gay or he played it...

On the other hand I knew a guy who overplayed the fact that he was happy to be in the army, and asked if he would get a real gun with real bullets that make real holes and named a few guns by name and type and asked if he could shoot with those ???? And he was very enthusiastic about it...he was not kept and could go home after further medical checks too....

He he hee....some smart guys !!!

Best regards.

PS: on the other hand, the military was the greatest waste of time and resources I have ever witnessed...

The Thai military does NOT ban gay people.

A large percentage of gay people aren't effeminate at all, many are hyper masculine.

Also many effeminate males are not gay.

Gay is a different thing than ladyboy / transgender.

Maybe he joined because he saw the opportunities for water skiing in the recruiting advertising?

I did.

Served for 26 years - bastards never sent me water skiing once!

Still, better than a real job...

The lady that owns a store nearby where I used to live. Both of her sons useless deadbeats. The first she paid so he didnt have to go. The second she paid so he just had to do yardwork near the local base. Then paid so he didnt have to do yardwork around the base.....they still both do nothing

Though another heartthrob Maipilat produced a medical certificate to say he couldn't be a soldier and so was allowed to resume his acting and singing career.

I wonder if you can get this medical certificate from the same people who issue driving license medical certificates for a few hundred baht....that is, for a few hundred baht they confirm you are in fine shape to drive a vehicle or in the case of the military draft for an appropriate higher amount they will also issue a not-medically-qualified-for-military service due to flat feet, heart murmur, bad back, severely limits time on Facebook/Line/Instagram, fear of hard work, etc.

Exactly,..I am wheelchair bound and when I needed a medical certificate for my driving licence ? the doctor wrote, that I was not wheelchair bound !!!

I had to go back and get a medical certificate that I am sound and able to drive !!!! TIT !!! 55555 You could not make this up !!!!

Best Regards.

I wonder if there is a regulation like "exempted for being too stupid", or is this considered a medical condition as well?

Actually a boy in my wife's extended family was too stupid to be in the army.

Hehee so for those men who didn't want to be drafted, one day of humiliation dressing as a woman was all it took.

Maybe some of them found they enjoyed it. Opens up new horizons.

Pay usually well exceeds the standard 300b a day. Most of them would make at least that in commissions on lady(boy) drinks. That, plus just one "job" a week and they are still way better off than working on the farm. Anybody still not understand why horizontal dancing (of any persuasion) is so popular (particularly in this weather.)

Wearing a dress alters your body, d'you think?

I really doubt many people would try that or that it would usually work. They ask questions about where they are with the transition, such as taking hormones or not. Obvious fakes would be easy to see. Thais know about ladyboys.

Don't worry, you're not Thai so there's no need to try to think of an excuse for yourself.

My step daughter, 15, showed me pictures of her classmates on her smart phone, all the teenage boys looked extremely effeminate, a right bunch of pansies.

What's your point? Drafted by mistake at 15?

I expect they look absolutely gorgeous - no need for any derogatory remarks - 'pansies' are one of my favourite flowers!

You're referring to 15 year old boys, pervert.

Wonder if Category 4 'suffering from a medical condition' could also be used to drum-out Little General Peacock due to the lifetime of lead absorption he has suffered from over-exposure to Grecian 2000 Hair Dye?

Gawd almighty...why did you respond to my post with that?

National Subscription would of been my worse nightmare....

It was part of the string, starting with the silly comment of thesatat2013.

I think it's a good idea, just that two years is too long 18 months would do. A land like Thailand could use some disciplined youths, after service, in civilian clothes one might be able to recognize them as men. The BBC 'bad boy's army' where yobs were given a sentence reduction for a stint in army training 50's style showed what a difference it could make to their characters.

Wassup Roberthebruce can't read ? It may be a SUBSCRIPTION for life to Readers Digest.

Other countries have the same problem. Too many hormones in the chicken!!

During the VN war, Oz army conscripts had a lower death rate than the Oz road toll rate for their age group. Given the difference in the 2 countries road tolls, the lack of a war, and that red shirts are no longer expending ordnance, as a group they should survive relatively intact.

So did the US,,,,all soldiers not just conscripts. Roads are dangerous places....as we know in Thailand.

The line,,, 'HE PRODUCED A MEDICAL CERTIFICATE' reminds me of the old days when a medical cerificate could be obtained at the counter of a doctors clinic.........all stampe and sealed.........writing name and 25 bath.

Those were the days?

The South.

My wife has a young gay guy who her employer just hired a few months ago at her work. Now, today, apparently he's having to go and participate in the draft lottery, with the prospect that he'll be conscripted and thus have to leave the job he was just hired for. Apparently, he'd already had several postponements, and didn't tell his new employer about the impending draft risk.

so, just curious, for those who pay their way out as described above for 10,000 or 60,000 baht or whatever, is that buying just a one year deferment, or, is it buying total exemption from the draft period for all future years?

Permanent. But "officially" it doesn't happen. whistling.gif

Go back to start, don't collect $200.

Having read the conscription rules from start to finish, there isn't any offical buy out option.

The bribe to pay your way out is 20,000 baht. So your BF has skived off with the other 20k.

Just to let you know for next time of course....

Found out from my wife later today, her work colleague was able to get excused this year, apparently with some kind of examination note from a doctor claiming some kind of medical issue. But it sounds like he'll be due to go back again next year and repeat the entire process.

It's good to hear that Thai officials recognize obesity as a medical condition.

It's not it's just a greedy condition. Mrs nephew got out of the draft today for being too fat, oh ok in PC speak his' medical condition'. He's a fat, greedy lazy slob who is always stuffing his face. I can see a lot more lazy cowards stuffing themselves every year to get out of it.
