Too fat and too pretty - Thai men who failed the Army draft

ANG THONG:-- Excitement was at fever pitch at the annual draft pick for the Thai military on Monday as all shapes, sizes and varieties of Thai men showed up.

And the Ang Thong pick, north of Bangkok, was no exception as ladyboys and a 300 kilo man who could barely walk were told by soldiers: "Er.....don't call us we'll call you."

The draft usually selects less than one in three Thai men over 21 who are eligible for military service. A black card means you're ok, a red means it is two years of spit and polish and standing to attention, oh and defending the nation.

But many are exempt for a variety of reasons and do not need to draw the proverbial straws. At Ang Thong 380 arrived but only 75 were eventually chosen.

Amid the excitement and cheers of relatives and a carnival like atmosphere Amphol Jaroong, 21, turned up looking more than a little glum. Weighing in at 300 kilos officers said he was exempt. The reason being a category 4 - suffering from a medical condition, in this case obesity.

Damrongsak Somanabaramee, 24, and Piyapong Phungsaengjan, 23, were exempt for an entirely different reason or as the army put it "having a body different from their sexual orientation at birth."

Many people turned up to see the ladyboys while at other venues Thai celebrities who came of age in time also waited nervously. Famous singer Chin Chinawut was in tears on national television when he pulled the wrong card, red, that means he will be singing the Army's tune for a couple of years.

Meanwhile Boom, a well known actor decided to forego the draft and just become a soldier for King and country. Though another heartthrob Maipilat produced a medical certificate to say he couldn't be a soldier and so was allowed to resume his acting and singing career.

The army missed a money saving opportunity. Could have used the big fella instead of a $$$ tank.

Hehee so for those men who didn't want to be drafted, one day of humiliation dressing as a woman was all it took.

They couldn't afford to feed him ! Cheaper to buy the tank and just park it ! laugh.png

And don't forget the large numbers of phonies who had invested in monk robes rather than pay the B60.000 to ensure a black card.

Pure Thainess! East is East, And West is West.

Look at those two 'belters' on the picture on the right. Bulldogs and thistles spring to mind

Max Klinger was ahead of his time.

During the VN war, Oz army conscripts had a lower death rate than the Oz road toll rate for their age group. Given the difference in the 2 countries road tolls, the lack of a war, and that red shirts are no longer expending ordnance, as a group they should survive relatively intact.

Pure Thainess! East is East, And West is West.

And brainless is brainless.

My step daughter, 15, showed me pictures of her classmates on her smart phone, all the teenage boys looked extremely effeminate, a right bunch of pansies.

oh and defending the nation.

Were gambling legal in this country, I would be prepared to bet that the Royal Thai Army have killed way more Thais over the last 80 years than nationals of all other countries put together. Its the Nation that needs protecting against their own armed forces.

Send the fat ones to Issan to work in the rice patties...send the pretty ones to Pattaya Beach to work as undercover agents...wai2.gif

I wonder if you can get this medical certificate from the same people who issue driving license medical certificates for a few hundred baht....that is, for a few hundred baht they confirm you are in fine shape to drive a vehicle or in the case of the military draft for an appropriate higher amount they will also issue a not-medically-qualified-for-military service due to flat feet, heart murmur, bad back, severely limits time on Facebook/Line/Instagram, fear of hard work, etc.

Personally I think the army would do Chubby some good (and shave more than a few pounds off him). Might be a life saver.

I don't get the Ladyboy exemption, as nowadays women routinely serve in the armed services. Should have a special Ladyboy Unit, the old British TV series "It Ain't Half Hot Mum" springs to mind as a model. Come to think of it, they could stick all the "odds and sods", like the fat boy, in it.

So life at 21 years of age leaves you with the middle road or three other options......

Red Ball, black ball or no balls!

Apparently if you've got some of the kit and a frock but have not gone under the scalpel they will postpone the decision for an additional 2 years to get the job done.

Hehee so for those men who didn't want to be drafted, one day of humiliation dressing as a woman was all it took.

Ah, not so easy there! According to the article there apparently was a body part check.

I wonder if there is a regulation like "exempted for being too stupid", or is this considered a medical condition as well?

What's your point? Drafted by mistake at 15?

Maybe some of them found they enjoyed it. Opens up new horizons.

Not just dressing.. They need to be transitioning.. Have tits etc..

Being effeminate doesnt let them off.. Being or on the rd to living as a woman, hormones etc.. does..

Apparently its very common for the doctors to be having a good old perv during the examinations too..

The get-out bribe was 30,000b for ages (sometimes 20.000).

Has it really gone up to 60k? Coincidentally, a Thai friend tells me it is 50k now but I didn't believe him.

Im surprised it is still allowed, under the "government" now.

No need to bribe anyone - there is an official 'buy out' option of 10,000 baht.

I paid 40,000 to buy my bf out and found out later 'I was robbed'!

No longer my bf, needless to say as money was channelled thru him.

I'm a lot wiser now - I think!

I trust I am correct in detecting a touch of irony in your final sentence?

I expect they look absolutely gorgeous - no need for any derogatory remarks - 'pansies' are one of my favourite flowers!

It's good to hear that Thai officials recognize obesity as a medical condition.

A very good film about this process is:

How To Win At Checkers Every Time

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfXh86HUpAA&feature=youtu.be

The rejection of obese and ladyboys is shown as well as corruption.

Just a thought but it seems to be the obese and ladyboys could serve in other ways, such as office work, and I don't think it's a bad idea to have a program for the obese of exercise and nutritional assistance.
