This is on the official day one. So all the talk from the current people in charge has done little to change things. What a surprise. What a shame of so many wasted lives. If this is a civilised world you can keep it.

Day 1 was 52 dead. This number is for both day 1 and day 2.

Still below average though so all is good.

Thailand is the second from worst country in the world when it comes to traffic accidents behind Nigeria...This isn't hard to figure out as anyone who has gone down to get a Thai drivers license can clearly see that the testing process in Thailand is an absolute joke...There is zero education here in proper driving skills

This 2-day number of traffic fatalities may actually be lower than the average. According to the WHO's numbers for 2013, there were a total of 24,237 traffic death fatalities in Thailand. That averaged to 66 road deaths each and every day. If 2013 wasn't an exceptional year for bad and/or intoxicated driving, this Songkran is actually slightly lower than the usual national average.

Every songkran and new years period are lower than the daily national average.

These types of threads are nothing more than clickbait.

If you believe the daily released figures as truly accurate then yes it appears safer to drive at Songkran which begs the question why label them 'the seven deadly days'?

I for one don't believe the figures having lived in a province reporting zero deaths when I know for a fact there had been fatalities.

The reason for all this slaughter is due to the way Thai are brought up and the school brainwashing.

Thai Boys especially are brought up to believe they are Demi Gods who have never been told Sit Down, Be Quiet, Your wrong.....

They do not understand the word NO!

At school they are brainwashed to believe that Thailand is #1 in the World in every way!

They believe it!

So, when they get their 'bike they still think that rules do not apply to them.

'I CAN DO WHATEVER I LIKE BECAUSE I AM A THAI BOY' who will never grow up in his head or will die early on the racetrack.

That's the reason!

Drunk driving during Songkran should result in an automatic 1 year jail sentence ; not just pay small fee and pick up your vehicle a few days later. These people need a serious wake up call,

They can't jail any more people......20,000 were arrested as announced 2 days ago...and now a further 20,000 arrested for drunk driving in the past 2 days.......who the hell makes up these figures.....Noddy and Big Ears??

Its hard for me to swollow, this once traditional hand and head sprinkling family ceremony is transferred in a druken stupa with people gambling away their and other peoples lives.

Today my wife went with the kids on a motorcycle gunning water on the road.

Its like walking on eggs for me,praying they won't get hurt.

Who can reach an accident when crowds of people block the roads?

I hope the days pass quicker then normal.

"BANGKOK — Threats to confiscate vehicles from motorists caught drunk have failed to stop road accidents occurring during Songkran this year."

and we all know why, don't we? It's because the drunks all know that is all they are, just threats, and the drivers all know this, that is why all these drunken scumbags keep driving, killing themselves and others.
