NARIT: Sun is perpendicular to Thailand during April and May

BANGKOK, 15 April 2016 (NNT) - National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT)'s deputy director Saran Posayajinda said the sun is in perpendicular position to Thailand for the first time of the current year during April and May.

At around 12.16 a.m. on April 26, 2016, the sun will be perpendicular to Bangkok, giving the earth the fullest energy from the sun. However, whether the temperature will reach its highest possible point or not depends on many meteorological factors and might not rise as high as anticipated.

During that time, if one goes out and stands in the sun, he or she will not see his or her own shadow stretched out as the sun will shine right on his or her head, seeing the shadow fall exactly under the feet. This phenomenon is normal since Thailand is located in a tropical zone.

NARIT: Sun is perpendicular to Thailand during April and May

How could they let this happen?

12:16am, be there or be square.

I know I'll be searching for that shadow.

The good PM will chime in on this soon. I do hope he puts an end to it.

This phenomenon normal because Thailand is in a tropical zone.......brilliant!........

Today at 12:16, 12 million Bangkokians will be in the street to see for themselves they have no shadow...........it's gonna freak them out!!

12:16am, be there or be square.

I know I'll be searching for that shadow.

If you're out there at 12:16am, the only shadows you'll see will be from street lights!

Today at mid-day will be around 86 Degrees which is as near vertical as you would want.

Section 44 will soon have this sorted out. And maybe a little AA for the sun

Simple fact is, he or she can't see his/her own shadow because no shadows can be seen at 12.16 am, Einstein.

There seems to be a shift in the shadows from daytime to nighttime , this phoneme has been brought about by the Prayut- O -Cha influence, media owners , reporters and the like are now that frightened to print the truth that they will print anything , even from the shadows......................................cheesy.gif .

At around 12:16am the sun will be somewhere in Mexico.

The phenomenon is normal since Thailand is located still on earth. It's a daily occurrence.

It is great to see that the government has re-educated the news media sufficiently to encourage that it concentrates on such vital and newsworthy subjects as this.

Presumably we will get a similar article at sometime in August to so that we will able to celebrate and rejoice in the sun coming back south..

Making a sand-castle out of a mole-hill (probably a typo, or translation error) here.

But, perceiving the absence of shadows after midnight as a phii-vish supernatural portent is a Thai character trait.

I thought it was only vampires that cast no shadow ?

Another quality piece of journalism.

Sometimes I wonder........

Blame it on the devil from Dubai!

So hilarious that the writer of this article doesn't know the difference between a.m. and p.m..

Who's Narit?

AM or PM, what makes the difference? It's hot anyway...

Perhaps you should condemn The National News Bureau of Thailand? I believe Thai Visa staff may just have posted it.

Thais have a hard time differentiating between the 12 hour time system and the 24 hour system. Thus we see things like

OPEN at 10.00 a.m. until 22.00 p.m.

The Thai sun not like other suns.

Ah, right, it's the time of the year the sun revolves to this position on it's orbit around Thailand.

How dare it take away the shadow of the people! I think the sun should be sent for some attitude adjustment.

Interesting comments about 12:16 am being at night.

It is not. That time doesn't exist.

Haha cheesy.gif

Of course it exists.

16 minutes past midnight, or as I would write: 00:16h.

Did you never study a US airline/airport schedule?

More than once people missed their flight on the "5th at 0:30 AM" going to the check-in on the morning of the 5th gigglem.gif

Some strange peoples still use archaic measurement and time units.

Thaivisa is an English language forum, but not even all English speaking countries use archaic units.

Thailand officially does not use AM/PM (as most of the world).

On one side they use 24h format in formal situations (news, announcements).

On the other side they have a more than archaic traditional system which I will not even try to explain in short.

Would make you fuzzy.

After 5 years I still don't master it.

This endless AM/PM bickering is childish.

The thread is <deleted>....

Facts:

Phuket April 9(over) September 2

Pattaya April 24 August 18

Bangkok April 26 August 16

Udon Thani May 9 August 3

Chiang Mai May 14 July 28
