BANGKOK: The 23-kilometre long MRT Purple Line which is the extension of the present underground Blue Line is now ready to open for free ride during a three month long trial run starting next month.

The elevated Purple Line links Bangkok with its neighbouring Nonthaburi province from Taopoon to Bang Yai.

Government spokesman Maj Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said Bangkok Metro Plc ,(BMCL) would operate its Purple Line from Bangkok’s Taopoon station to Nonthaburi’s Bang Yai station on a 90-day trial run from May to July prior to the official service commencement in August.

He said that during the three-month long trial run to test its system, emergency plans and system’s efficiency, free rides for the people would be allowed from June.

The 23-kilometre long elevated line has 16 stations and can serve 120,000 passengers per day.

But after official service on August 12, fare will be collected, ranging from 14 to 42 baht, he said.

The stations include the terminal station at Klong Bang Phai, Bang Yai market station, Government Office Complex station, Tiwanon intersection station, Wong Sawang station and Taopoon station on the other end of the line.

Nearest station actually under construction would be Lak Si on the Red Line, slated to open in 2020 (systems contract has only just been let). Red Line follows the existing SRT alignment north from Bang Sue to Rangsit and Thammasat so it will also connect to Don Mueang airport

There is a monorail on the drawing board to go along Chaeng Watthana but I'm pretty sure construction has not started yet.

EDIT By the way, don't expect to be able to actually use the Purple Line before July, trial running will start in May but there won't be any scheduled service / timetable and no Proof of Safety in place.

I found a lot of the maps of the line to not really be precise enough. If you are looking at real estate near mass transit, ever meter counts. I've even heard people say they didn't want to be "too close" to the station, because in general, there is more of a specific set of crimes and inconveniences in the immediate proximity of mass transit stations. I then re-installed Google Earth, and it looks like the shots are recent. Here is one where it makes the sharp right turn in Bang Yai, in front of CentralPlaza Westgate. post-257548-0-50959800-1460886782_thumb.

What about the connection with the riverboats at the pra nangklai bridge? Will it be working soon?

And are there new boats coming? I need a speedboat with airconditioning and good seats who brings me from there to Siam.
