In 2000, '96 Honda Accord, H22A engine and transmission (from 5G Prelude SiR), Prelude brakes, CAI, remapped ECU with speed limiter and rev limiter deleted and VTEC engagement point lowered, Supra fuel pump, full custom s/s exhaust system, Koni Sports, Eibach lowered springs, 17 inch Enkei wheels, Yokohamas.

1994, a red Suzuki Caribbean. I bought it in Bangkok, at the first service in Saraburi they stole the Spare Wheel. I didn't notice it until the first puncture after about two years. There was a cover over the wheel, at I put a padlock on it on the day after the service. Whatever, the car was good for about 250000 km and more than ten years. The only enhancement I put in was Power Steering, it was ok for 10000 Baht. The never models had it, and it was more or less just a installation of new spare parts for the old model.

Went through a series of Volvo 940 in the early 90's which were the standard company car of the time. Solid cars, but I never found them comfortable.

First car I paid for myself here was when I needed a family car that the missus could also use so bought a 2003 Ford Escape. Due to the excise tax laws at the time which included a category for OPV it was one of the few cars with a decent engine (3.0) that you could get at a reasonable price. Served us well for about 9 years, particularly as the missus thought that driving was a contact sport.

Went through a series of Volvo 940 in the early 90's which were the standard company car of the time. Solid cars, but I never found them comfortable.

First car I paid for myself here was when I needed a family car that the missus could also use so bought a 2003 Ford Escape. Due to the excise tax laws at the time which included a category for OPV it was one of the few cars with a decent engine (3.0) that you could get at a reasonable price. Served us well for about 9 years, particularly as the missus thought that driving was a contact sport.

Good motors. I thought about doing up an old rwd escort and bunging one of those 3.0l lumps in it. The local mechanic wasn't very happy at the thought of doing anything without a Jap 2.0l 4 pot in it.

Bike: Honda MTX 125 in 1992 (great for the floods on lower Sukhumvit every time it rained)

Car: Ford Aspire in 2000 (Truly awful car - and with a heater! I was hoping it was aspiring to be a car one day)

Very cool. I have a 93 Honda Accord with a 2.2 liter H22A engine out of Prelude as well. Haven't been able to find a decent shop in Phuket to do the proper tuning and repairs. If any one knows of a good reliable shop...

My first vehicle was a second hand Yamaha 125 MB that I bought twelve years ago to escape reliance on taxis. Good bike and I took some long trips on it to Ranong, Krabi and Khao Sok Nat Park. Sold it to a Thai lady friend on payments. Next was a Yamaha Virago 750cc piece of crap. Sold it to a farang guy for cash and ran. Then another Yamaha 750 Genesis piece of crap. In a thousand pieces in my shop. You would think I would learn my lesson. It was very cheap. Kawasaki Boss. Great bike. Only maintenance at the Kawi shop. No bikes anymore. I don't heal up as quickly now.

First car was a 1984 Honda Accord. Great little car but I spent a lot of time correcting Thai mechanical neglect. A piece of solder in place of a fuse, for example. But served me well for a number of years. Sold it to a friend and it is still going strong with over 400,000 on the clock. Next a VW Vento saloon car. OK car and looks good but a slug. Bad Valve seals and uses a lot of oil. The VW forum says an engineering design problem. Sorry I bought it. Purchased the 93 Honda a few years ago off a Thai kid who neglected it. Sat in my driveway for a year or so while I did a lot of mechanical maintenance and some body work and paint to bring it up to standard. Love this car. Looks great and great fun to drive. Next is selling the VW and buying a pickup, probably a 12-15 year old Ford Ranger or Mazda diesel. They are the same vehicle. Will need it when I move to the farm. If anyone knows of a good pickup at a decent price I am in the market.

A three-year old Toyota Avanza in 2008, bought for 380,000 and sold three years later for 300,000.

1.3L engine, rear-wheel drive. Lovely little thing - took it to Songkhla and back from Bangkok. That was a fun drive!

First bike: Tiger 125 - this was my daily driver when I was working in BKK. I never understood the bad rap these bikes got; it held up as well as a comparable Honda. This one was converted to samlor and later sold to a handicapped guy who is still running around on it up here in Chok Chai.

Subsequent bikes: Through a bit of 'loan-sharking' the wife acquired a couple of Honda Click variants. One has been sold, the other is a daily driver. Acquiring one cheap is the only way I would have one of these...I hate the automatic/CVT setup. Give me a manual gearbox and manual clutch every time.

First truck: 2008 Toyota Hilux Vigo Prerunner 4-door. Bought new, I still have this one.

Subsequent truck: 2005 Toyota Hilux Vigo "dumb cab". We bought this cheap from a family member who could not make the payments. I am not sure what the long-term plan will be for this...other than I want to get rid of the stupid 17" low-profile tires and switch it over to 16" ala PreRunner.

Speaking of which, does anyone know of an aftermarket kit to put about 2" of lift under that truck?

The old Duratec V6 was a good motor and really what drew me to the car. The engine was also put to some other interesting uses as well, I think Noble were getting over 400HP out of their version by strapping a few turbos to it, and two Duratec V6 superglued together formed the basis for the Aston Martin V12 that is still going around today. From memory I think Morgan and a few others may have been using them as well.
