Just because there's a newer version of a driver available doesn't mean you should update if your system is working fine. Does the update have new features you desire? Or is the old version a security risk? If not, then best to stay put.

Good advice.

Always have a good reason to update.

I have some semi fancy Nvidia graphics adapter which offers huge updates (150 MB?).

If I look in the "what's new/fixed" list I almost only find some quirky enhancements for some video games never heard of.

A waste of time and bandwidth to update.

Worst I had though was a regular Windows update some time this year on the granddaughters PC.

PC became unbootable (cyclic blue screen) bah.gif

Had to do a lenghty repair.

Hmm, now I'm even more scared to touch the intestines of my Asus ux 305.

Fact is
-- can't stop the touchpad from reacting , highly annoying , work with Mouse only
-- can't stop the automatic keyboard switch between Eng/Germ
(Need German infrequently but want the option to at hand)
-- speakers are good for a whisper, not more
-- plugging in the headset, nothing works no mic no nothing
All of that happened at the same time( I had reported this before but was traveling thereafter) One of these uncontrollable Windows10 updates, the culprit ????

No.

Microsoft is not responsible for all third party drivers (which they likely are).

No need to pay anything, free:

I had problems with a very good driver update program that finally left me without any graphic driver after a successful update.

Thanks for sharing.

That's because most of the time you don't know what you're doing.

Just search for a free app called Touchpad Blocker.

Disables it while you are typing.

Keyboard switch I dunno, disable German until you need it?

Volume: Have you checked that you have the appropriate and latest Sound driver?

Have you looked at the settings for the sound card to make sure the volume isn't turned right down?

Headset: Same.

If you plug in the headset it should detect it. Then it should ask if you want to switch to it, which implies to me it's not being recognised.

I have two headphone ports on my Dell but the headset seems to work in both.

1. 7 drivers outdated

2. many other things I dont understand

And I certainly dont want any program like Aero to fool around with my desktop.

I did not agree to it.

1. If you have System Restore enabled, set a new restore point.

2. If you are using imaging software as a backup solution either make a new image or a new incremental backup. Additional safety, make a restore disk if your software has that option.................thumbsup.gif

3. Run your driver update program, download and install either the ones you think you need or all recommended driver updates.

If everything goes to sh*t, fall back to either 1 or 2 above.

Edit: The reason i am suggesting the above is that you certainly seem to have issues with your laptop/notebook and need to remedy it. Audio, touchpad and graphics indicate possible driver issues.

Otherwise, like others, i am a "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" type when it comes to drivers.

OP, as a matter of interest, did both DriverToolkit & SlimDriver indicate the same drivers needing updates?

Chris,

your mesures certainly make sense ... to my uneducated ear.

I'm sure if both programs highlighted to the same drivers, sometimes the names are to close to judge on first view.

Facts is ToolDriver said 4 drivers need updating and Slimdriver wanted 7 programs.

I uninstalled both because I did not know what I doing.

Guess your suggestion has to wait until a friend comes by whom I trust.

And have you recently upgraded to Windows 10 or in some other way not running the original factory version of Windows?

The only reason I ask is that sometimes those function keys (and others like the volume control for example) require a proprietary software program from the manufacturer. For example on my Acer I have to run Launchpad in order for all the buttons to work as intended.

You could check the manufacturers website under support/drivers/downloads for your model?

That' what drives me nuts, BEN, everything on this Asus ux305 is original, W10 etc, manuf shows 32 drivers but doesn't say which ones are outdated. And the driver tests that I took are also not clear.

BTW one more non-functioning item =

Brand New wireless mouse Is not recognized

Bluetooth does not recognize Chromcast

Ok, I would start by downloading and applying the latest release for each of the categories that has more than 1 entry (on the basis that if there is only 1 it was probably included in the factory image). Note that there is an updated driver for the pointing device and an updated BIOS, either of which could address your touch pad issue.
