Huh? The Ottoman Empire took control in 1516 after they defeated the Mamluk Sultanate. Jerusalem was eventually governed from Istanbul and the rest of "Palestine" was subdivided into districts and was governed from Ottoman Syria. The Ottoman Empire recognized the Israelite people, which is why Jerusalem was managed as its own entity.The Israelites or Yehuds as they were called, were autonomous and managed their internal affairs, including religious, social, and legal matters under the Ottoman Empire's millet system.
