PHUKET: -- Phuket police arrested a crystal meth (ya ice) dealer in Srisoonthorn yesterday (Apr 28). His arrest then led to the arrest of his supplier.

Provincial Narcotics Police led by Maj Rittichai Chumchuy arrested 31-year-old Somporn Niyompong and 27-year-old Bunpot Prahca at different locations in Moo 5 Srisoonthorn. Seized from the two was 256.25 grams of ya ice, a Thai pradit pistol, a shotgun shell, digital scales and drug taking paraphernalia.

Maj Rittichai said that last month police received a tip-off from undercover officers stating that Somporn had been selling ya ice in the area.

“At 12:45pm, after monitoring him at a house in Moo 5, we made a move and apprehended him at a shelter next to his home, he was found with drug taking paraphernalia. We searched him and discovered .88 grams of ya ice.

“Somporn confessed that he bought the drugs from his friend Bunpot who lived nearby. He said that Bunpot probably had more drugs at his home and gave police the address,” he said.

Thai drug mafia motto.....loose lips sink ships...didn't take him long to confess and chuck his mates deep in the sh?? We can only thank him for helping clean up the streets.who needs undercover cops when you have these types of chaps.maybe they are in the Thai version of a brotherhood.dont the Thais know that it's customary to blow the whistle on anyone but yourself..

256 grams is a decent arrest.

Recently, 1500 people were arrested for a variety of offences. I don't know if it was a misprint, or they meant 1500 charges against a lot less people.

Here's that thread.

I'm wondering how Phuket prison is accommodating all of these criminals. Sure, some pay their way out of it, and some get bail, and some just fined, but many of these arrests are for violent crimes, firearm possession or for a large amount of drugs.

Surely, there must be some prison time for these people.

Just today there is this drug dealer, and the guy who murdered his grandmother. For the women, there was the 1.8 kg cocaine trafficker, and the girlfriend who stabbed her boyfriend in the neck. They all should receive long sentences.

Unfortunately, we rarely hear of the Court results and sentences, but even if half of them are sentenced to prison, where are they putting them all? i hope not back out on the street, just because they don't want to build another prison.

Excellent point. The local press reports the headline arrest yet rarely follow the result other than a very few high profile cases.

if you are a buddhist, buddhists do not lie,if you do lie and the bib tell the judge that your confession was "not" useful the judge automatically doubles the sentence.....thats the way it was explained to me and they know that going in.

Not as I understand the Thai judicial system - if you confess then the sentence is halved. I supose if the confession was a lie then the full sentence would be imposed.

"I supose if the confession was a lie then the full sentence would be imposed." - huh?

If the confession was a lie, wouldn't that mean the accused didn't do it?

With the sheer amount of arrests for serious crimes here in recent times, I can't see where they are housing them all because every now and then there is a news story saying Phuket prison is overcrowded.

Badly expressed - if the account of the crime had information suppressed, like an accomplice or associated crimes, then the full sentence might be imposed.

I thought they sent them to one of the famous open prisons like Pattaya. That seems to be a place jammed full of Thai thugs / criminals

That srisoonthorn area is full of prostitutes and drug dealers.

The police never clean it up properly because it's bread and butter.

All sorts of shootings and violence in that area. Police even killed a prostitute girlfriend a few years ago.

It's Patong for Thais.
