Birthday Party and (so called) Social Media

Recommended Posts

Had a birthday party. 12 friends of Mrs , all girls, showed up armed with i-phones and i-pads. Barely a word was spoken. Did not stop them consuming huge quantities of food. Is that is what is meant by " bread and circuses"?

I think that you were extremely fortunate. Any party that my wife and her friends get involved with always has ear-damagingly loud karaoke and lots of shouting and screaming, which gets worse as the night progresses. Gives me tinnitus so I tend to bow out early, if I go in the first place, which I usually don't these days. Getting too old I think.

All food photos get uploaded to FaceAche - before, during and after consumption, of course.

Wouldn't it be the case that the internet, in general, would run rather better without this continual uploading of trash? What a waste of bandwidth!

I can't see the point of taking a picture of an empty plate.

If you've never eaten a meal you thought was worth remembering, I feel sorry for you.

I've often eaten a meal that was worth remembering, but it wasn't worth remembering until after I'd eaten it.

I'm not in the habit of remembering meals I've not eaten yet

Edit: In retrospect and fond remembrance, following a little repetition, I could've had less garlic and chillies with my dinner tonight. You should be grateful we don't have a scratch'n'sniff internet

I wish that I had the vocabulary to describe my contented belches. You guys don't know what you are missing.Have missed, in fact.

For future suggestive guidance, you might want to take your girlfriend or wife to a rugby game for her birthday. She can spend the whole game on her phone gossiping with her mates, and you can watch the rugby without disturbing her. It's a win - win situation, except for one of the teams on the pitch
