Renew passport, plus 12 month extension of permission to stay.
In this case... The Passport Expiry date (April 2026) is 'after' the his extension of Stay expiry (Oct 2025) So, the question seems to be in two parts: a) IF he gets a new extension of stay (in his current passport that will expire in April 2026), when he gets a new Passport before then... can he just go to immigration and get a new extension of stay in the new passport ? Of course - the simplest answer is just to plan ahead and get his new Passport and ensure its arrival before is current extension of stay is up (Oct 2025), and then get his new extension of stay in his new passport. It seems he's just covering basis and looking at two possible options.
