CDC Chairman unworried about opponents to draft charter

cc.jpg

BANGKOK, 9 May 2016 (NNT) - The Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Commission is not worried about movements of people who oppose the new draft charter.

CDC Chairman Meechai Ruchupan said yesterday that he does not feel any pressure from any movement preparing to disrupt the charter drafters’ planned trips to explain key information of the draft Constitution, especially in areas which are known to be politically sensitive.

Mr. Meechai said that, prior to any seminar or event, the CDC will need to request permission from the National Council for Peace and Order, which will ensure that everything is under control and in order. Therefore, the CDC will not need to request an additional team of security officers.

The CDC Chairman stated that the charter drafters will do their best to explain the draft charter to people across the country and are preparing documents that will help volunteers carry out the task, as well as setting up a team to man a call center to assist the mission.

Nevertheless, Mr. Meechai conceded that he is worried about possible misunderstandings among the people, even after the nationwide trips being made to explain the draft Constitution.

There it is again ...""explain"" ............the citizens treated like unknowing children .

They understand .

They understand their rights dissolve in approving this article

We get ""better understanding needed""

It's the elite mantra .

And they gently try and sell it in ever so polite terms .

While their gulags fill up with innocents.

Enough BS ....the international community need to impose sanctions and show them who else is opposed to a constitution rigged to retain power for the elites .

It's illegal as an article as it was constructed by people who hold power over a population by force.

It's a worthless article in any international court on those grounds.

Give them our clear understanding in telling them their AA and other uses to quell opposition and country tours is not democratic.

Thai people need fair open elections and the leader holds power.

The military need to keep out of Thai politics or be told they will be targets next time by the international community

Gee, could he be unworried because...

-He's already written several constitutions that have been overthrown by coups?

-'Misunderstandings' of the content of the current draft are a result of using deliberately vague language and therefore intentional?

-Whether the new constitution is approved by referendum or not, the outcome for the country will be the same?

A flippant remark to say the least , you need to wonder just how logic this comment is seeing how people have been arrested and students harassed just because they choose freedom of speech which the junta cannot stomach , firstly, just how many in the population are against this draft charter and how many dislike the Junta, and how many will just vote no as a protest , the end result will be known soon , however the Junta needn't rub their hands with glee of an extended time in power with another rewrite on a no vote or ride rough shod over the country and introduce it anyway , as this could very well be the start of their demise............................coffee1.gif

It appears your statement and observation could begin to ring true.

With time the opposition might from this point swell and pressure from UN not to arrest could see the flood gates open.

Or worse they continue then that will lead to clear conflicting position where stronger language is needed by the international community

Meechai is so unworried about opposition that he oposes the idea that foreign groups should be allowed to observe the public referendum process.

No, he fears transparency and accountability for his authored draft and the referendumm process. He knows that not even the junta can control freedom of people beyond Thailand's borders.

The Junta had the NLA pass a law (Referendum Act; Vote: 170:1) which outlaws any opposition, and has penalties of 10 years in prison, and a 200,000 baht fine.

So the only "worry" Meechai might have is, "Do we have enough jail cells?"

They (Five Rivers) wouldn't go ahead with the referendum if there was any chance they couldn't get the result they want.

Then why is the junta threatening to lock up said opponents for a term of ten years? That alone tells me they really are rather worried.
