Indian restaurant owner accused of killing a customer with curry

Easingwold, North Yorkshire: -- An Indian restaurant owner has been accused of killing a customer with curry.

A court was told Mohammed Zaman, 53, was cutting costs in his debt-ridden business by employing illegal workers and substituting almond powder with cheaper ground nut mix, which contained peanuts.

The Telegraph reported Zaman allegedly failed to warn customers of the switch.

One customer, Paul Wilson, 38, suffered a severe peanut allergy and died at his home after eating a curry from Zaman's takeaway The Indian Garden in Easingwold, North Yorkshire, England, the court heard.

Peanuts are everywhere.

He could have died in any number of places.

How much thought did you put into this before you posted it?

Do you think people with potentially fatal peanut allergies don't bloody ask?!

I thought it was going to be about that special killer hot British curry where you need a gas mask to cook it and need to sign a legal release to order it.

In this case I suppose it's a matter of whether there are government regulations mandating peanut warnings or not.

Yes, they probably do ask, but many of them - like this man - die anyway.

And they definitely do when some cheapskate deliberately uses peanuts to save money without telling them.

I've had the odd killer curry now and again but usually the worst result is an exploding anus!

You mean at one of the places where you have to sign a release form? I used to think I wanted to try that and I'm sure I could eat it but I'm older and wiser now.

Allergies are no joke. I have a seafood problem, although the dried shrimp in the curry paste is fine. I've been on a drip feed after eating prawns before I learned the cause

I'm sorry but if you have an allergy that will potentially kill you then you would be insane to take the word of an Indian takeaway restaurant that it has no peanuts in it. I wouldn't risk my life eating in a Gordon Ramsey restaurant never mind the local takeaway indian for crying out loud sad.png

People involved in the food industry have an obligation to the consumer to make sure that the food is safe and does not contain items that might cause a problem. There are a lot of different allergies to food products with varying degrees of symptoms. Peanuts is one of the more dangerous.

This vendor was really, really negligent.

Have to agree with this. If I had a life-threatening allergy, there's no way I'd take the risk of eating 'outside' food.
