Have a fairly new pair of garden shears (hedge shears) that my partner has managed to lose the tension spring from. This is a thin metal spring that goes under the big knurled nut that creates tension on the blades. It's probably a 20 baht part, but I can't say I've seen them available anywhere and the shears are pretty much useless without one.

Most things sold here are not designed to be repaired so parts are often not available. That said I would check large hardware shophouse type stores (Chinese type places) as they might have something in a back bin that could be cut to fit. This is not likely to be on display anywhere. If you must DIY suspect only option will be to buy a new model with same type spring and use that and then you have a spare cutter for later as long as you do not lose the new spring.

You might find something on Ebay that would work.

Thanks, already checked out Ebay. It's not a coil spring, but more like a spring washer. The shears were around 500 baht, so not that expensive, but seems a bit like overkill to buy another pair because a 20 baht part is lost, but maybe I'll have no choice.

Oops sorry - was thinking you needed a spring to keep the blades apart to be placed between the two plastic green tits on handles - you manually open shears?

Suspect any tension spring of proper size could be cut down to fit over the knob to keep blades tight. A normal lock washer would probably work.

Aye Johnny you must have had a few glasses of the amber, there appears to be a wee touch of the frog twang there.

In the nuclear power generation industry, it is important to minimize radiation exposure to maintenance workers. On valve packing glands, A practice referred to as live loading is used sometimes. Number and arrangement of Belleville washers pushing the packing gland against the packing sealing the shaft of the valve or stem makes the adjustment last longer requiring less attention.
