Hasselbank wasn't fit to lace Greavies' boots Derek!!!

I respect that.

I am not old enough to know (with respect I say)

I am only old enough to know about a TV prog called Saints and Greevsie Saturday afternon 1pmish when my my dad took me to London. During the 1980´s

And your all time XXI is? ....I have shown my eleven show me yours!

I respect your opinion.

I'm not a Chelsea fan Derek so i'll bow to the opinion of you lads. However there are two names i would include, those of Claude Makalele and Franco Zola.

Dessailly wouldn't be far away i'd have thought.

I was in two minds over Dessaily but opted for Lebouf due to his long range passing wrenched to leave Zola out.

That was a stroll and much easier than I had envisaged. What was interesting was that, for the best part of the second half, Hazard vacated the left wing and tucked inside, the only width being provided by Ivanovic and Azpilicueta. Now, as good a defender as Azpilicueta is, he cannot skip past players as Hazard frequently does, so much of the probing was through the centre of a very congested penalty box. I reckon Mourinho didn't want Hazard to expend too much energy, and save himself for bigger fish to fry at Schalke. It was also noticeable that the subs, Remy, Drogba and Ramires were introduced only very late on in the game. Schurrle wasn't even used, which makes think that he will feature from the start against Schalke as he must know them very well.

That was fair comment regarding Fabregas, Delboy, but it's stretching it a bit to say he is 'ten metres in front of Matic'. He does his fair share of the rotation of the midfield but, the problem he has is he can't get back quick enough to cover, so it looks, most of the time, that Matic is isolated has to do his work as well. My all time best X1 for what it's worth.

Cech, Ferrer, Terry, Carvalho, Le Saux, Matic, Zola, Wilkins (Ray not Graham), Lampard, Greaves and 'The King of Stamford Bridge' Osgood. It was heart wrenching to leave Bobby Tambling out of the midfield but, he would be on the bench.

Good team, as good as any. I foun dit tough choice leaving out Carvalho, sad to see him go but happy he ended up a Madrid (my Spanish team) he won the ball so high up the pitch it was like having an extra man in midfield - the player David Luis wanted to be. Ferrer vs Ivanovic, I went the other way but tough call. Surprised at seeing a newcommer in Matic ahead of Makalelee.

i raised an eyebrow at the Matic over Makable choice but it has every justification when you consider the job he's doing. However i would choose Makalele simply from the greater amount of games he played, a more proven track record. what a lovely choice to have to make!!

Yeah, it was a tough choice. And the same criteria could be said for not including Hazard but, this lad Matic is monstrous. He is more mobile than Makalele was and gets in more scoring positions. The only reservation I have in my team is that there aren't many ball winners in midfield!

Former Chelsea manager John Neal has died at the age of 82.

Neal took over at Stamford Bridge from Geoff Hurst in 1981 and is widely credited with rebuilding the club, which had been in a perilous state.

The Blues avoided relegation to the third tier in 1983 and were promoted back to the top flight the following season as champions.

Neal also made a number of notable signings, bringing in the likes of Kerry Dixon, David Speedie, Pat Nevin, Eddie Niedzwiecki and Nigel Spackman.

He retired because of ill health in 1985, joining the board of directors, after Chelsea had finished sixth in the table in the old First Division.

And the team he built challenged for the league title the following season under his successor John Hollins.

Born in County Durham, Neal was a full-back and spent three years at Aston Villa as a player. He also had spells at Hull, Swindon and Southend.

He spent nine years as Wrexham manager and four years in charge at Middlesbrough before his arrival in west London.

McCreadie was on the short list. A terrific left back who was tough tackling and quick. Others worth mentioning: Gullitt, Ballack, Hudson, Cooke, Di Matteo, Joe Cole, Ashley Cole, Petrescu, Poyet, Dixon, Ron Harris, Gary Locke ( lesser known but a very talented full back who was voted the Club's Player of the Year in 1974), Vialli, Drogba, Roy Bentley who was captain of the team that won the First Division in 1955 and my dad's personal favourite, Hughie Gallacher, who was knee high to a grasshopper but was a tenacious goal scoring centre forward in the 1930's. What we've got to remember, is that all aspects of the game of football have improved from the early years. Pitches back then were like ploughed fields compared to the bowling greens they play on today. The training regimes now, are from a distant galaxy compared to then, but still these players towered above the rest.

I guess now the 11th rule is:

If some strange bloke over the age of 15 in pebble glasses is loitering about, the game is won by kicking the ball in his nuts and yelling "everyone run".

Expect a tough game tonight, Schalke need the win and a draw for us would be ok. Expect a slight reshuffle from Saturday Luiz and Ramires to start me thinks.

My biggest problem is where am i going to watch Chelsea for the 11 weeks i,m in Los,cancelled True sport 3 years ago,no point in signing up for Cth? In Chaiyaphum for 4-6 weeks don,t think i,ve seen any joint that shows live footie there......and then Bang Chang/ Rayong for 5 weeks oooh the bars the bars biggrin.png

Whenever I'm in Chaiyaphum I get a internet sim card and stream it. The internet is much better now than it was only a year ago and I got decent quality. If the match is on at a reasonable hour i.e. a Saturday 3pm kick off UK, then Tawandang usually have the football on in the outside seating area.

I was at the Athens final and the replay. My friend and I booked our tickets with 4S travel on the train coming back from the semi-final win at Man City. Cost was 35 Pounds for the return air fare, 1 night in hotel, match ticket and travel to ground. Knowing Chelsea of old, we took extra money in case of the replay. Flight delay at Stanstead airport meant we were taken directly from the airport in Athens to the match. Such disappointment to concede in injury time.

Next day, we told the travel rep that we would be staying over, then booked the hotel, flight back for 45 Pounds, and went to the ground and bought the match tickets.

Great atmosphere at the replay, no Real Madrid fans at away matches in those days, but the locals were with us. Great night at a nightclub in the Plaaka afterwards, not too great for the flight back early in the morning. Straight from Heathrow to the Fulham Road to see the open-top bus celebrations.

Despite the recent success of the team, including the CL win, that still remains the best Chelsea night for me, great memories.

When we drew with Real Madrid, me and my brothers didn't have enough money to stay for the replay. The memory I have of that match was Osgood's volley that put us 1-0 up and being bombarded by bloody great moths as we had our seats under one of the floodlights.

'Hooky foot' Houseman RIP. Where did Dempsey pull that volley from? If Gudjohnson had had another yard or two of pace, he'd have been on the short list. Outstanding close control.

You've got a great memory, Delboy. I can't even remember how I got there! Coach for best part of the way, I think.
