I just got a Myanmar e-visa. I put the details here if someone has comments or wishes to know how it works.

The official Myanmar government site is http://www.evisa.moip.gov.mm/ There are also agencies that charge a commission. I couldn't see any reason to use those.

I first used an old computer with Windows Vista. The site complained about "pop-up blocking" (which I am not sure was present). So I had to use my phone instead.

The cost for tourist visa is $50. Slightly expensive. Three day processing visa at the Embassy/Consulate in Bangkok is about 900 Baht.

Must be used within 90 days, can stay 28 days, same as if you apply at a Consulate/Embassy.

The application is simple to fill out with fewer details than the application forms at the consulates. It includes uploading a picture of yourself from your phone/computer.

Processing time was set to 3 days. You are also supposed to get an email with "confirmation of application" within one hour. But after 30 minutes I entered my application number at the website and the visa was already approved and a pdf-file could be downloaded.(I should print out the pdf and show at immigration.)

The visa stated that an onward/return ticket must be provided. I don't think the site mentinoned that and it is usually not required by the consulates. I guess immigration will not ask to see the ticket but the airline check-in staff will probably take its chance to make me buy a ticket. So I buy a cheap onward ticket now.

In summary it was quick and not too expensive, but you need an onward ticket.

These were just my impressions in case someone else also considers applying.

I ought to add:

If you expect email from this website, remember to check your spam/junk-email folder. I now see they sent me copies of the information via email and it ended up in the junk-folder. (The junk-folder also does not always show up properly in some Android apps.)

I should also add this. So far you can only get evisa for entry at the international airports in Yangon, Mandalay and Naypyidaw. If you f.ex. enter overland you must get a visa at a Consulate/Embassy instead. (The rather new Consulate in Chiang Mai makes entry in MaeSai/Tachilek simple.)

When you apply for e-visa you are given a choice and must specify by which airport you will enter.

I used my e-visa today. They stamped my printout and put another stamp in my passport. As quick as it would have been with an ordinary visa.

Best of all: *It doesn't consume one page of passport.* As long as I fly in to one of the abovementioned airports, I will probably use e-visa in the future.
