Hello

I'd be really grateful for anyone who could help me with this query at all.

I came to Thailand for six weeks in February. I returned to the UK for one month where I obtained a non-immigration ED Visa so that I could study Thai language. My Visa started at the beginning of May (when I returned) and is valid till the end of July. I will then get an extension which I'm told is likely to only be for another two months (three if i'm lucky but it's unlikely)

In the total of five months I plan on studying for a total of 240 hours. Ideally, I would rather it was 180 hours. My school has chopped and changed with what they believe is necessary for me to do to extend my ED visa and I'm getting the impression that it is just at the whim of the immigration officer that I will see when I go to get the extension (and that I may be tested on my written Thai...which I don't want to learn)

I would like to stay in Thailand for a year and I do want to learn the language but speaking and not writing. I also want to Study privately but am unclear about how many hours a week I must do. I have got through so many forums and websites but there are a lot of contradictions and hearsay. Is that just the way it is or are there some concrete facts that I can work with?

I am thinking that my best option might be to return to the UK after five months and then get a multiple entry six month tourist visa. However, I am concerned that I will have been in Thailand then for almost 7 months in total this year and that I therefore may not be granted a six month tourist Visa because 'tourists' do not normally stay in the same place for one year. Even if they do grant it, is there a possibility I may have problems when I arrive at the airport?

You will have no problem getting a multiple entry tourist visa if you meet the requirements to get it. Same for entering the country.

There is no limit on the total amount of time you can be in the country as a tourist.

That used Ed Visa in your Passport may subject you to additional scrutiny at immigration. Be sure and have 20K Baht equivalent in Cash when you enter. I would have proof of an exiting flight ready to show, as well.
